FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First we chat a bit about their musical goals and influences. Then we go through some vocal exercises to get a feel for their voice and where we need to go. Then we would do some more workouts and focus on a song of their choice so we can begin to apply our lessons to a practical goal of both vocal ease but also musicality.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started with Suzuki piano lessons at age 5, which is a classical method that also centers around ear training and organic musicality. Later I received a degree in Jazz Performance from Berklee College of Music on Tenor Saxophone and began singing, playing guitar and songwriting. For years I played in bands and toured around and continued to sing live and take vocal lessons as well. More recently I have been delving deeply into vocal science and continuing to study voice and vocal teaching methods.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been playing music forever and singing professionally in bands since my early 20’s, and part of that has been taking vocal lessons myself. I’ve had some amazing vocal coaches who were truly life changing for me, and I’ve always loved the chance to help other people I’ve been working with. So it has been a natural progression into teaching others.
