Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

This tiling job was started on March 27th and still not complete. When we first met Alfredo he talked a good talk, he seemed professional and knowledgeable about the job we wanted done. We hired him. My hsband and I had already purchased the tiles and cement. Also about a 1/3 of the existing tiles and the old cement , that needed to be removed was already taken up by us. We agreed on a price for the job and Alfredo asked that we pay him 1/2 upfront and the remaining after the job was finished. We agreed and did this. Alfredo informed us that he and his workers would be at the house at 8 am Monday morning to start the job. Monday, no one came to the house and no one contacted us to let us know they would not be starting Monday. Alfredo and one other worker came on Tuesday morning and started the job. Alfredo told us that the old cement still on the concrete slab from the old tiles did not need to be taken off, he said that they will just put cement over the old cement and lay the new tiles on top of that. The two workers finished laying the tiles on Thursday afternoon (two days), the tiling job looked good, the trim around the edge still needed to be placed. Alfredo asked that we pay him for the remainder of the job as he needed the money for the weekend. We trusted Alfredo and did pay him the final payment. We did pay Alfredo the remaining funds agreed upon for the job that day. (BIG MISTAKE) We did not see Alfredo again for two weeks. I called Alfredo twice, left messages, I texted him to ask where they were, each time he texted me back saying they had a situation come up and they would be there first thing in the morning, they didn't come, I called again, left a message, this time it was a family issue and they would come the next day, they didn't come again. I knew now that we made a huge mistake in paying this guy for the job before it was complete. Had we not paid him, I am sure he would have been back the next day to complete the job as promised. When Alfredo did finally come back to put the trim around the tile edges, which took less that 30 mins, he said he would be back to clean the sealer off the trim that oozed over, in the morning. Needless to say we have never seen or heard from him again. He has not returned to clean up the trim, no follow up call to ask about our satisfaction, nothing. The water now pools in the middle of the tiled area, where it used to run off into a french drain around the pool, obviously the flow that was once developed by a slop to help the water drain off the tiled floor is no longer there, probably because the old concrete was not removed. In conclusion, the newly laid tiles on this very small area by our pool, looks good but are probably not going to last as long because of the pooling of water that sits on tiles for a long time. We are very dissapointed that the ending result was not as we expected and our communication and interaction with Alfredo has proved to be deceiving. One thing we know for sure we will never be so kind as to pay someone for a job that is not yet completed no matter how desparate they are to have the funds. BEWARE!!

Dear Bj, Thank you for your feedback and I’m sorry that your experience with my company wasn’t as pleasant as we would like. I’m sorry that I contacted your husband instead of you directly to let you guys know we wouldn’t be able to come on Monday due to the rain. The original job that was in the scope of the request had been completed so it was difficult for us to arrange time to accommodate the extra work that you wanted completed. I’m sorry to hear that there are areas where water is pooling and I’d be happy to come take and look and fix any faulty tiling.

Mr. Gonzales came out quickly to asses our fencing replacement project on a Saturday. He was very professionally knowledgeable on how the work should be done and did a great job. We have since hired him to do a double window replacement job on my Mother's home as well. Thanks Mr Gonzales for the professional and quick work!
