Introduction: Really, I owe it all to chance, economic evolution, and one heckofa steamer. I’m a self employed handywoman, housecleaner, student, and Air BnB host. I have neumerous reviews from people who’s houses I have cleaned, and from people who have stayed in my house. I incorporated just over a year ago when I began cleaning with Task Rabbit. It was less than a month before I had enough customers to go solo. I am equally insured, and not faceless, gigantic, or 3000 miles away. In April, I lost my Grandmother. She left behind a great legacy of DC activism and a greater house in Brookland. Once again, I stumbled into success in the new economy when I opened the doors to guests from all over the world. I have been hosting guests nearly every day since September. It is a lot like constantly cleaning someone else’s house, except I get to choose the sheets. I also get to build things and fix things and paint walls, which I love. I like the unique service products I can provide, I have time and expertise enough to help people really get their homes clean, organized, and comfortable. Mostly I really have to credit the steam cleaner, but I supply the elbow grease and the heart. None of this was the plan; I was a paralegal for a solo practitioner, I still freelance as a paralegal for he and a few other solos in the DMV. I am finishing a second bachelors in legal studies this year. I plan to use that degree and the aforementioned heart in a career as a legal advocate for those who need one. I am specifically interested in special education and disability law. ...Really though, steaming generations of mold out of bathroom grout is extremely satisfying.

She has also been managing the booking and customer service. Her attentiveness and good humor has been exemplary and the results show not just in the property itself but also in customer feedback. She should stop misrepresenting herself and her ability. She took on a job that she was not qualified to do and was unable to plan for it, costing me time and money. In addition to not having the skill to perform the job, she was inconsistent with excuses and timeframe. She was either on another job, sick, or simply didn’t show up. She never met any of the completion dates she proposed, but she insisted they were just estimates and “these things just happen.” When I organized with my handyman to help her get some help to finish the job, she failed to show up the next day. I eventually had to end it. She is good with excuses and lacks in accountability. She claim to have done 75% completion at the end, this was at best 15%

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I pretty much charge $30-$50 an hour for cleaning-deep cleaning. The handy fees aren’t much different. Since this site structures rates by the job, I estimated the amount of time it would take to clean various sized places and translated that to the flat fees you see here. There’s always room for negotiation.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I come with my steamer, Murphy’s, and Windex; we go from there. I usually find people’s homes are not as dirty or difficult as they think. It’s always easier to clean someone else’s house than your own.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I’m brilliant. That is just an added bonus. I have 15+ years of professional experience in various service oriented positions. I am not afraid to get dirty, and I am unwilling to do a bad job.
