I studied music theory, improvisation and technique for Jazz piano with Dory for about 3 years. His deep musical knowledge and talent allowed him to teach me exactly what I wanted to learn and more. Dory taught me the perfect amount of Jazz theory for me to understand how music works, instead of just memorizing music. His approach was for me to be able to sit with any tune and globally apply my knowledge as opposed to just learning one tune, or one key. All the complex musical theory and technique was broken down and compartmentalized such that I could grasp and learn each concept in just a half an hour session with him. I learned something new in each session, granted that I put in the proper amount of practice on my own time. Thanks to Dory, I am continuously developing my style, I have played numerous live Jazz gigs, and I play in a Rock/Blues band.

Our 2 children have been taking piano lessons with Dory for more than a year and it has been an outstanding experience since then. Dory is not only a music teacher (not only for piano btw), he is a musician and a composer. My children have made incredible progresses in piano but they've also learnt to love music, understood the principles of styles, composition, orchestra etc... Dory customizes the approach for each child, always making sure his students progress at their pace and continue enjoying what they do. The studio is very peaceful, well decorated and inspiring. Even for me it's a peaceful and very pleasant moment when I stay there for an hour.

Within one lesson I was able to understand the principle behind chord structure and play music! Dory has a wonderful technique in teaching. He also has a lot of patience which allows me to be forgiving of my own abilities! I highly recommend him.

$40 for 30 minute lessons $50 for 45 minute lessons $60 for 60 minute lessons
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I tailor my approach to suit the needs and interest of each student. I emphasize important fundamental skills, including music literacy and proper technique, and carefully select pieces for each student based on their level. Most of my students enjoy a blend of classical, pop, jazz, and other styles, though some choose to focus on a genre or two of their liking.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a classically trained pianist with a BA in music composition. In addition to my work as an educator, I am a performer, accompanist, and composer. I am on the faculty at the Southern California Conservatory of Music and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
