17 years in business
My son Andrew studied piano and viola with Susanne Vergeldt of the Keys & Strings Music Studio, for 10 years. During that time Andrew enjoyed an excellent piano and viola education which helped him become an advanced player in both. By the time he was a senior in high school he scored 100 percent in the Michigan Solo and Ensemble judging for piano and a 97 in viola. The judge went out of her way to give credit to Andrew's piano teacher. Currently, Andrew is majoring in music and he composes piano music. We are forever indebted to Susanne for her impact on Andrew.Sep 20, 2017

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My prices are flat rates, based on time. There is no fee for an introductory consultation. If a student participates in a festival or competition, the student is responsible for the fee. There are no fees for performing in local recitals. Due to the nature of teaching, no discounts are available and no refunds can be provided. A credit for a future lesson will be provided in the event of a canceled lesson.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? An introductory consultation with a prospective student and/or parent is very helpful, and encouraged. This helps to "break the ice," especially with a younger child who is entering a stranger's house. It also gives the prospective student an opportunity to play a high quality piano, especially if he or she is unfamiliar with one, or has been playing on a keyboard. The consultation also allows the prospective student and/or parent to ask questions.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I am a classically trained musician. I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan. I studied Violin from the 6th grade through 2 years in college. I also earned a Teaching Certificate in Public School Music from Oakland University in Rochester, MI and taught in Michigan and New York. My piano and violin instructors were Detroit Symphony Orchestra members. I attend frequent seminars, workshops, and master classes to keep my skills fresh. In addition, I perform with the Orchard Lake Philharmonic, a community orchestra. I also enjoy playing American Fiddle music in local venues.
