Introduction: Suzan is classically trained and embraces all styles of playing. She considers the development and fostering of a love for music her primary focus. Her teaching method utilizes the fundamentals of classical training, including music literacy, theory and technique. Her students enjoy playing music in many styles, including classical, pop, and musical theater. Mrs. Horrocks has exceptional knowledge and expertise as a teacher of classical piano. "Classical" is a word which describes the 18th & 19th centuries music to be characterized by balance, clarity, and moderation (Webster's) It includes expressions as art song, chamber music, opera, and symphony. Since having Mrs. Horrocks as our teacher for 5 children, (which vary in age from 4-14), she has shown them the essence of "classical". It is as she has taken us back to that period of time with her own passion and love for classical piano. Her enthusiasm is contagious and invigorating. She doesn't "just teach" she is filled with a love for the art of it and thrilled to share it with others. I am certain that the classical great composers would applaud her reverence for teaching their pieces. There are many more attributes Mrs. Horrocks contributes other than just teaching piano. She complements her teaching style with incredible intuitive insights for each and every student. She seems to know exactly what is needed to take place in their learning, though they all be different. She chooses pieces to learn which best compliment her student's personalities. (Which is a gift). Clearly, education and solid experience set her apart which she uses powerfully. She is not rote with her instruction and insightfully draws out of her students the beauty of playing. As a mother, I am enormously grateful for her detailed personal attention. Our children are in wonder in their discovery of their inward talents blossoming before their eyes, all because of her care and attention to personal details. She is filled with praise and unfounded encouragement for each student, yet accompanies that with a steadfast seriousness for accuracy. With these complementary techniques she doesn't allow any room for a student to feel that they aren't good enough, aren't trying hard enough, or anything lesser than. But, with an assurance that they are good enough and growing each week. She provides a lovely, private and comfortable studio which accommodates enough room for us all. We are incredibly blessed to have her teach our children. Each of us would without question encourage you to choose Mrs. Horrocks as your first choice, as it will be the only choice needed. You will receive nothing less than everything I have pointed out here. Exceptional learning, solid knowledge and a passion playing this most wonderful instrument.....Piano!

Suzan Horrocks is an amazing teaching professional and piano player. She teaches piano to both my children (11 yrs, 13 yrs) on a weekly basis. Suzan not only teaches them how to play, but encourages them to truly enjoy playing this instrument. Suzan consistently keeps her students engaged, encourages them and challenges them to reach the next level. My children have not only learnt how to read music and play, but Suzan constantly works with them to improve their technical abilities. Suzan organizes an annual piano recital for her students along with various group classes. These activities allow the students to gain valuable experience and confidence to play in front of an audience and their peer group. This experience has allowed both of my children to play with confidence in school and in front of music exams judges. Both my children have taken the piano Guild exam and passed with flying colors. I would highly recommend Suzan Horrocks to anyone of any age who wants to learn to play. She is extremely organized and an absolute pleasure to work with.

My older daughter had some moderate success with a few teachers and then began to play really, really well once she started with Suzan. She has studied with her for nearly 20 years now and amazes people with her ability. My younger daughter who struggles with dyslexia found a whole new world through Suzan's patient and supportive teaching style. It has really fostered a love of music. Both of my daughters adore Suzan as a teacher, role model and source of inspiration. I feel that Suzan has been such a gift. She's a really lovely soul.

Suzan Horrocks is a delight. I’ve been her student for more than 20 years. Before I started I was concerned that as an adult student with a very busy schedule I would be hassled for not always practicing as much as I should. I needn’t have worried. Ms. Horrocks is a very effective teacher with the patience of a saint who adapts for each student. She identifies your struggles quickly and communicates clearly the best method to help overcome them. I can’t praise Suzan highly enough. Besides being an accomplished pianist herself, she loves teaching and her enthusiasm is contagious.
