I met Rae at the hardest time in my life about 6 years ago. I had an accident that left me with a traumatic brain injury so I wasn't able to do many of the things that I was so used to anymore even my makeup specially that I had only one good hand working fine. So I met this amazing woman who made me feel that everything was possible again even with one hand ( since my left hand wasn't moving at the time) she came to my house several times and gave me some makeup classes and made me feel comfortable and confident I can't say it was easy but I did it and I know it's because all the support she gave me. We've became more than makeup buddies today she is a good friend of mine and I thank God for the day that I walk into her and met her because she completely changed me, my recovery my confidence and believe that even having the issue that I have I still can do so much more. Rae did my makeup for my wedding day and my face looked amazing! I told her what I wanted and she created that for me gracefully! Not only did she travel for me but she was able to accommodate any of my last minute requests like adding a face or two :) If I ever need another MUA or know anyone that needs one, I would use/ recommend her over and over again!!!!

Hired on Thumbtack

I hired Rae to do an individual makeup lesson. I am a newbie to makeup but somehow managed to accumulate a large collection. I was looking for a lesson on the basics of applying makeup, which products to use and how to achieve an everyday look. Rae was amazing and professional! Before the lesson she reached out to confirm what I was looking for from my lesson and what was important to me. I really appreciated this because I've tried doing a lesson in the past and felt the makeup artist was more focused on what she wanted me to learn instead of what I wanted. Rae arrived right on time (actually a little early :) ) She brought all her products and jumped right into the lesson. She was thorough throughout the lesson; she explained each step, offered some tips and product recommendations. She answered all my questions and made sure I understood I knew how to apply the makeup myself to achieve the look I wanted. The best part was we worked with my makeup so I could learn how to achieve the look I wanted with what I already had. I was thrilled with the final look and even happier that I actually did it myself (with her help). My friends loved the look too and although they are not in the market for a makeup lesson Rae is on their short list of options when they need professional makeup for their next event. Needless to say I will be hiring Rae again when I am ready to learn the next step or for my next event. She was also a lot of fun with a positive funny attitude and I am considering hiring for my next party to do a group lesson. Thank you Rae!!!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First is getting to know the customer. It's very important to know what type of customer I'm working with so I can formulate an idea of the makeup that makes them most comfortable. Then, I ask what event this makeup is for; this will determine the next series of questions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am self taught. I learned through watching others and diligent practice. I also worked for MAC cosmetics in the beginning of my career, which helped me hone in on my craft.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was just a college student with a serious passion for everything makeup. I would do friends and family's makeup here and there. Soon enough it became the nucleus of my existence. Makeup was all I could think about.
