Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: With 20 years of experience in web development (HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, etc.) and SEO, I pride myself in going above and beyond for my clients. Sometimes a client has a vague idea of what they want, and sometimes they know precisely what they desire; in either case, I bring expertise, experience, and practicality and make their vision a reality. I view my job as part developer/designer, part consultant. Additionally, I have over 10 years experience with WordPress including theme customization and child themes. With my career, I enjoy taking "what if's" and making them come to life.

I really like working with Rex. He listens to my needs and then explains various options clearly so I can understand what my alternatives are. He is creative, accurate, dependable, and a super nice guy. His work on my websites has lasted a long time performing very well. Thanks Rex-----JP

I am a novice when it comes to what needs to be on a web page. Rex was very patient with me and helped design a site that suited our needs perfectly! I would recommend him to anyone! Thank you for holding my hand through this process!!

Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

I initially hired Rex to build me a landing page for my business. His initial quote was one of the higher ones but he lowered his price in order to get the business so he could build his reviews as he told me. Here is his email response with our agreed upon price. “Totally understand, Jeff. I'm more than happy to match the $400 because I'd really like to work with you and build my reviews on Thumbtack.” So, when the job was finishing this is what he sent to me. “I'll be happy to answer questions. But at this point, my work for the $450 is done. ;)” Please Note, I didn’t say a thing. I just paid him even though he was overcharging me from the agreed upon rate. That should have raised a red flag on his trustworthiness but it didn’t register with me right away. Initially things appeared to go well with Rex and he assured me he would be available to correct issues or make changes until I was completely satisfied which is what you would expect when your building something from scratch and you’re not 100% sure how things would go until you’ve used it for a short period of time. Within three weeks after Rex completed my Landing Page, the designer for which I paid a design fee to, went to the Web Page to check it out and he emailed me wanting to know why it hadn’t been done the way he designed it. He made suggestions to me to give to Rex to make it look more appealing to people accessing the site. These were things already in the initial files provided to Rex that he DID NOT follow or implement. When I noticed it and asked Rex about it, his response was that it would look better the way he had done it. Looking back, I now realize that Rex didn’t do it the way we requested because the additional time it would have taken him to do it. Rex was too inexperienced with the Word Press Codes and newer language and I didn't know that until after speaking to the Web Page designer and seeing Rex's work. I went back to Rex and asked that he make the changes that I initially expected to be included and he refused and that’s when I started to realize that Rex didn’t build what I wanted, he built what was the easiest for him to do. I had some other small issues and glitches as a result of the way he built the web page so I asked him to make corrections as I was expecting, however shortly afterword’s he emailed me asking if I had gotten his 2nd PayPal invoice which I was never expecting or looking for. I didn’t bother to complain and immediately paid the additional $100 he was requesting even though he overcharged me before. I also asked that he make a few other date changes that he didn’t finish doing. Again, he made the changes but this time billed me again and then asked that I never come back. This was the cut and paste from his e-mail to me when I questioned him about billing me for another slight change. “I said I would help you... I never said I would do it FOR you. I believe that's not only unreasonable, but unfair. If you will pay the invoice that I submitted earlier, I will do this new request for you and not charge you. But then, unfortunately - unless it's a question about what has already been done - I will no longer be able to work with you. Hopefully you understand.” My initial response was total disbelief so I asked him to clarify and again this was his response. “To clarify what I said last night, if you have questions about something I will do my best to provide you with an answer, and if something I built isn't right, I will address it (though I can't be responsible for things I did not create, like WordPress plugins). But what I will no longer be able to do is add/change/update things for the site”. Maybe I’m wrong but part of the reason I went to him was because his initial selling point that he will work with me to get it exactly how I like it or until it is right and I don’t think going back less than three weeks after his handoff to me was asking too much to make some changes to the aesthetics of the page. Furthermore I’m not please he didn’t follow the initial design files because it would have taken him longer to do something that looked better than make the client happy. After realizing all this I found another web developer to help me and keep my page updated and they told me that when they went in to look at what Rex built for me, it was done with mostly old and outdated WordPress code so now I have to decide if I want to spend even more money to have it done right or just pay larger sums every time I want to add or make changes since it will take a lot longer. In closing, Rex seems like a nice enough guy but he oversold his services because he doesn’t want to do any customer service and is still using old or expired coding. He just wants to do the minimum required work so he can get paid so he can bill the clients by nickel and diming them for any additional things that should be covered under the initial scope of work. Also, as he did with me, he slightly changes the pricing when he's about done hoping to catch you unexpectedly. In the future, I suggest any potential customers of Web developer Rex White to hold back any additional funds until you are 100% happy and prepared to walk away (with all necessary user names and passwords) cause this man isn’t doing any more work than he has to after the initial job is handed off to the client unless you dangle more money in front of his face. I could have gone with any number of other web developers who offered to do the work after posting the job on Thumbtack and now I realize I should have gone in that direction than listening to someone who makes promises to get the business with no intention of keeping his word on many fronts. Good Luck & Beware!
Rex White, Web Developer's reply
Sadly, I expected this review from Jeff. My hope is that the positive reviews you'll find outshines this one irrational review. Jeff provided specifications to the initial project, with which I provided a more than fair bid. After excepting the bid, Jeff provided new specifications which meant that I had one of two choices - call him on it (and charge him), or "just do it" in order to ensure I got a good review on Thumbtack. I chose the latter, and I now feel certain that this was his plan all along. After making all changes he requested - to the letter - he paid me for the originally contracted price. After several days, Jeff has some changes he wanted to make. He made sure he hinted that money was tight and he wanted me to be "nice" to him (in regard to price). He also wanted the work done as soon as possible, though he tried to play nice with, "I'm sure you have other projects going on". I performed the work very quickly, assuming that he would be good after that. (Also note that his original review, which was stellar, came at his point.) Then a few days later, Jeff called my phone and started emailing me with more changes - all that needed to be done soon - and with the typical, "please me nice to me on price" disclaimer. At that point I said that I would make those changes if he paid the previous invoice, but after that I would no longer be able to work with him. He made the payment, and asked if I would set up the appropriate administrator access for someone (so he could hire someone else). Literally, as soon as I did that, he's come back to Thumbtack and left a 1 star review. Jeff Feig has no respect for quality web design and programming, and likes to guilt professionals into working for spare change. My experience tells me that he will post a project, get you as low as he can go, and then expect the moon. He has no respect for what it takes to program a quality program/web site with excellent user experience built in. I do not post this response lightly... I believe in the "customer is always right" motto. To a point. I will not be taken advantage of. Jeff is the perfect example of that classic client who tries to squeeze every ounce of work from you, at the lowest possible price. As long as you are doing what they want, they will say wonderful things about you. But if you say, "enough is enough", you get the kind of review I just received, which is unfortunate. He is okay trying to hurt my livelihood. That is inexcusable, Jeff Feig.
