FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For weddings I have two basic packages, one for preparation and ceremony only, the second for preparation, ceremony and reception. With both packages, I can do a short film only, or a short film and a long film. Prices range from $600 to $1600. There may be more expenses for extra hours, travel, and special arrangements. I'm very flexible.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to get to know my new customers. If it's a corporate film of some kind we have to sit and talk the matter through from every angle. If it's a wedding video, first we fill out the contract together, either on the phone or in person. Then, closer to the event, we meet in person to discuss the day, and what they would like to see on their wedding video. Every couple is different, and I never want any two of my wedding videos to look the same.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I originally went to college for cinematography, then switched my major to creative writing (this was when "film making" still required film). Every since then, the two disciplines have been inseparable. That's why I look for the story and the personalities that make each wedding unique. I have an MA from Johns Hopkins and an MFA from the University of Iowa Writers Workshop. Though these degrees are in writing, they taught me to look for small details, and this skill is invaluable in my film making.
