FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For in-home lessons, I generally charge $30 for 30 minutes, $40 for 45 minutes, and $50 for 60 minutes. For Skype lessons, I deduct $10 from these prices.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I try extremely hard to make my lessons as flexible and customized to the unique atmosphere of each student as is conceivably possible. When engaging with students, I treat my own musical inclinations as a non-factor. As a result of this philosophy, I have worked with students on everything from composing original film scores to writing rap songs to arranging pop songs for solo piano to creating their own musical improvisation exercises to analyzing motivic development in Beethoven sonatas.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taken piano lessons since elementary school with a variety of teachers. During high school, I studied privately at the Juilliard School and at the Cleveland Institute of Music Young Composers Summer Program. Then I entered Swarthmore College, where I received a BA in Music and Psychology and served as a music tutor, leading Swarthmore's weekly Music Theory Clinic. During the summer of my junior year, I served as a Teaching Assistant for a class called How Music Works for Stanford University's EPGY Program. Since graduating Swarthmore, I have taught over 70 private students from ages 4 to adult, some through organizations and some independently. I have also served as a music directed for two K-8 schools, a music technology instructor for a summer course at the Nelly Berman School of Music in Haverford, PA, a Lead Songwriting Instructor for Groove LLC (based in King of Prussia, PA), and as a songwriting teacher, music director, and accompanist for the Media Theatre in Media, PA. I am currently enrolled in the Peabody Conservatory's MM Program in Composition as well as their Teacher Certification Program.
