Introduction: I'm a freelance writer and editor. I've written in many different magazines and newspapers, from The New York Times and Rolling Stone to Sports Illustrated and Vanity Fair. I currently contribute to Outside. I've also been an editor at Details, The Village Voice, and the Santa Fean. I've written a book (came out from Dutton in 2000), and I've had stories and poems published in numerous journals. I've also taught writing --fiction and nonfiction. One of my students, who became a good friend, had her first book published this past spring. I am easy to work with, fast, communicative, and reliable and provide readers with engaging writing.

September 29, 2015 To Whom it May Concern: I have had the opportunity to work with Devon Jackson on numerous occasions. First when we worked together at the Santa Fean Magazine. He was our editor; I was an account executive. I was enthralled and impressed with his writing style covering art, architecture and lifestyle stories. Devon wrote the bio for my website, www.katherinemaxwell.com. I'd always like his profiles of some of the artists here in Santa Fe, so I knew he had a good understanding of creative types like myself. What I didn't know, until sitting down with him, was how good an interviewer he is, and how good he is at putting you at ease and getting facts out of you that you'd completely forgotten about. But good details. And then he puts his spin on things, but in a way that really brings people in. Even better, I know that what he's written about me has helped my business. I recently got this from one of my new customers: "Love her stuff, a great mix of punk/goth/boho. Also, her about-bio is one of the best I've read.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Standard pricing--it'd be great to get in the neighborhood of 50 cents a word. But I know that's not always possible. So I'm open to negotiations, and it often depends on what the job is and how many words and how soon the client would need it.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Find out exactly what the client needs--or as close to exactly as they may say. Make sure both sides are clear about what that is, and agree on a deadline.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been writing and editing for over 30 years. About anything and everything--from sports and movies to crime and art. I'm flexible. Extremely flexible. And I write according to who the audience is and what the publication is about.
