FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I work by the hour on most jobs; I have a daily rates for low and very low income home/property owner, and I do some charity work too. Jobs that require special tooling and rented equipment will cost a little extra. Other variables (i.e. the simplicity/complexity of a project, having to go into a "flooded" crawl space after the sewer pipes have failed, insect infestations, the size of the job, and other variables can all impact the finished project pricing on any given job.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Meet with home/property owner; ask questions for clarity on project particulars; take notes and lots of before photos; show home/property owner how my billing statements, security papers, and release of security instruments are completed; give home/property owner a projection of time and materials after sourcing materials shopping for project related information; have home/property owner sign a contract and security instrument for their particular project; complete job to meet or exceed industry standards; collect final payment for labor and materials, return original signed security instrument(s) to home/property owner.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Carpenter and Labor union sponsored classroom and hands-on training sessions with various kinds of equipment ; varrious Community College classes; trade magazine articles, TV programs like "This Old House", YouTube "instructables", working with other service providers; and talking with products experts, manufacture's representatives, and sales personnel on how best to prepare the work area prior to applying/installing various products (and, of course, having said "products experts and manufacture's representatives" inform/instruct me on how best to apply/install their brands/products).
