FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
FIRST HOUR IS ALWAYS FREE. with zero commitments. lets make sure you like me before spending any money. I charge $35 / hour for all subjects. I do encourage group sessions to help split the cost. Each additional student will cost $10 / hour. This means two students will cost a total of $45 / hour ($22.5 each). I teach groups up to 7 students at one time. I recently reduced my rates after taking a break from tutoring to launch a successfully running company in Colorado (Texas location coming soon). My rates will likely go back up after rebuilding my test banks. Rates for current students will not go up.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First and foremost is understanding the students pain points in learning and the specific subject. This is typically the most uncomfortable part of tutoring because sometimes the student can't identify what they do and don't know. Luckily, this is my specialty and part of what makes me so effective as an instructor. I'm an engineer by trade and analysis is what I do. I ask students to work a few problems without any instruction to see where the problems originate. Once I identify where the problem originates we go to work. I rarely encourage memorization of concepts. Memorization of fundamental concepts (rather than understanding them) will only make life more difficult in the long run. Since math and physics are progressive subjects that build on previous concepts, a student will always struggle if they are taught memorization tactics. That being said, a few topics are insanely useless in most career paths and future classes. For those topics, I will not waste tutoring time forcing an understanding. For example, when logarithms roll around, we will work on the algebra of solving logs, but encourage memorization of log rules.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University with a minor in Engineering Mathematics. I worked as the Lead Physics Instructor for the second largest tutoring company in college station. I booked over 1500 one-on-one tutoring hours for math, physics, particle dynamics, etc. I also taught multiple weekly physics classes with 30+ students / session.
