Introduction: My expertise is in starting beginning students, no matter their age on the road to excellence. I have worked with children for the past 20 years as a school teacher, children’s pastor and music educator. I have been teaching private music lessons for the past 20 years . I have taught middle school guitar at Lincoln Academy for the past 10 years. My teaching experience is invaluable in helping me communicate musical concepts to children. I have also taught many adults on various instruments. I enjoy working with all age groups. I use Alfred’s Piano Library courses for piano students and Hal Leonard’s guitar method and Alfred’s Kid’s Guitar course for Guitar students as well as many supplemental pieces of music. Flexible I will find a weekly day and time that works for your schedule. Your lesson schedule may be adjusted or canceled when required, and you're not locked into any long-term contracts. Customized for Any Age and Skill Level I teach all ages and skill levels from raw beginners to experienced players that want to bring their performance to a higher level. Multiple Instruments I offer lessons in guitar, piano and banjo and ukulele. If you wish to learn a different instrument, supplement your lessons with an extra 15 or 30 minutes lessons or sign up multiple family members simultaneously, I will tailor the lesson to fit your needs. What You Can Expect Unlike many other music lessons you will learn essential skills and learn how to read music not just play it. This is very important to know so that it will translate to playing other instruments or singing. I will review material from the previous lesson, then new material will be introduced. You'll learn exercises to develop playing technique and music theory knowledge as well as practical skills such as ear training, sight-reading and notation to give you the confidence to explore the style of music you prefer. You'll also learn how to play real songs, and I will be happy to work your favorite music into the curriculum.
