Introduction: Fall in love with playing piano while developing a strong musical foundation!
My name is Monica! Music lessons with me are vibrant, engaging, and fun, but also develop a deep understanding of music theory, technique, composition, rhythm, and more. While most teachers focus on either the playing aspect or the enjoyment aspect of music lessons, I believe that both are equally important. Students must be learning properly and effectively, and I cater my teaching approach and music styles to every students needs to achieve this, but lessons must also be enjoyable. I have a knack with students who have had a bad previous experience with lessons and need someone special to help them fall back in love with playing piano.
I have 23 years of playing/performance experience, 10 years of passionate teaching experience, a BM in Piano Performance from California State University, Northridge (rated among the top 25 music programs in the US by Hollywood Reporter), five music scholarships (including a pedagogy scholarship for being the top of the pedagogy class), and I am certified in the Music Teacher's Association of California for Certificate of Merit assessments. I am extremely passionate about my teaching practice and dedicated to the success, enjoyment, and well-being of my students!
Benefits of healthy and successful piano lessons appear in more ways than you may think. Students who take lessons with me have experienced:
-A deeper understanding of musical concepts that facilitate an expansion of musical tastes
-Confidence in one's musical abilities and knowledge
-An increased awareness of self-discipline which benefits other areas of life
-A strong music foundation that can be applied to other musical endeavors (learning another instrument, starting a band, composing, etc)
-An unexpected natural adeptness in math class
-An understanding of the work ethic required in order to achieve goals
-Being more comfortable in typically stressful performance settings, such as: public speaking, test taking, etc.
-Regular practice in creative problem solving
-A greater awareness of body mapping, healthy posture, and potential tension issues
-An ability to break down large projects into digestible amounts
-A higher personal standard of excellent execution
Most of my students learn a variety of musical styles, primarily including classical repertoire but also including jazz, lead sheet reading, pop/rock arrangements, film music, and more.
