- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing typically varies based on how many lessons (each lesson takes 1 hour) the student takes per week and the distance I have to travel to meet with the student. My rates include my travel to the court within the 15 mile radius of Irvine.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First of all, I am very selective on taking on new students. I only work with highly motivated students, adults or kids who are genuinely interested in tennis. For students, who are not sure whether tennis is the right sport or not, I would recommend taking group classes first. I usually have far more students asking for lessons than I have time for, so I choose my students very carefully. I can teach students the stroke, but I cannot teach passion and love for the game. Once I work with a student, the first step I go through with them is evaluation and understanding his or her needs. How old is the student? In what kind of physical shape is he or she? Any prior injuries? Has he or she taken any prior lessons or group lessons? What worked, what didn't? Why does he or she need tennis instruction? Is the student playing tennis for recreational purposes or preparing for a tournament? If the student is a child, is the child trying to prepare for classes in high-school or even for college? My next step is evaluating his or her stroke itself. Where are the strengths and weaknesses? Provided the student has prior experience with tennis, my question would be what 20% of the stroke I can work with that would make an 80% difference to his or her game? Finally, once I have a decent idea about the student's tennis need and where he or she can grow, I develop a plan to achieve the student's goal in tennis.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been playing tennis competitively over 20 years and have been coaching tennis the last 10 years of my life. I have taught mostly private, but I have also taught in private clubs on occasions. I have been working with some of the best coaches in my past and they have been not only my mentors, but also taught me the fundamentals right so that I learned tennis right the first time. My experience playing also taught me to develop a keen eye for what to look for in a stroke.
