You can tell that Louise is very good at what he does, and wants to do a good professional job. And takes pride in what he does. But it seems like you have to fight him to get what YOU want. For example, we wanted to paint the exterior, and he started to take down/replace some of the siding- no, no, just paint (for the 5th time). I felt I was always trying to hold him back. And I also felt he was trying to give too much advice on what should be done/ needs to be done. - but he is very thorough. I felt it was a bit condescending at times. The job took longer than anticipated due to a problem with the paint sprayer. Due to this, it seemed the other parts of the job were rushed. But all other parts were completed to satisfaction. The ceiling paint turned out to be splochy. He does have very fair prices, and was able to complete everything. It's just a matter of communication that was a little frustrating.

This is actually very difficult for me to write. I like Lou and his helper Keith very much. They are awesome guys who worked with me and brought my vision of a wet-room, wheelchair accessible master bath to life. Overall, I'm happy with the construction results. What I'm not happy with are the details and a good portion of the overall experience. I felt we were going to be in for problems when Lou arrived without a written estimate or scope of work. But we went forward. This resulted in receiving a cabinet that did not meet our expectations for paint grade 'wood' as included in the original bid, to pay an extra $500 to have Masonite panel doors and drawer fronts was a disappointment. But, keep in mind this was after he asked me if I wanted a piece of furniture instead of a floor to ceiling linen/storage cabinet. To continue about the cabinet. It is wonderful, Masonite panels and all. But, the paint job is horrible. there are runs, drips, sags, and bare spots. Some areas aren't painted at all. It's obvious they were aware of the defects because areas were sanded for a second coat but not repainted. There are obvious brush marks on the crown molding and the final trim is not professional looking. There is however a lot of paint on my husband's Aggie patio cooler, windows and the patio, as well a primer which I have managed to pressure wash off. Months later, I'll need to paint the cabinet but it still stinks of oil based paint. Paint. The texture on the walls and ceiling look great. The paint, not so much. Obviously one coat over primer and there are grout stains on the ceiling that I will need to prime and paint. Now, for the tile. The edges were not finished in any way with the exception of a small area where Lou installed caulking at my request. the bar code is evident on the tile edges. I find new hollow spots under the floor tile every week. There is mortar on the edges (where they thought I'd never see it-Ladders guys, I have one). There is mortar above the level of the river rock pebble tile in the shower. Grout, there are still areas missing grout. The grout level is so low between the pebble tiles that water accumulates and doesn't drain. In some cases nearly to the level of the mortar. Some pebbles were completely covered by grout. There is gray wall grout on the floor, cream floor grout on the wall. Then, worst of all is the grout haze. It's everywhere and doesn't wipe off. This grout requires solvent to remove. I'm cleaning grout off of the tile face a small section at a time. It's tedious, painstaking work that should have been done correctly at the time of installation. I told them I knew how to lay tile and grout having done thousands of square feet of it. So I'm unhappy about that. Plus, no baseboard tile in 2 places that I will end up installing myself. The shower leaked which resulted in the wall in my adjoining closet to be cut into. That was never repaired. The attic access in the closet was damaged and not repaired. The crew left their coolers on the patio for several days in the July heat, then on Monday tossed the spoiled food into open trash bags. My dogs ended up being sick as, well you know, dogs because they are dogs and got into the yummy spoiled food. The debris was piled higher than I am tall for a very long time. I cleaned up drink bottles and food debris daily just to avoid my dogs getting sick again. Dogs. I love my dogs. They are both old but they are runners. Carelessness on the crew/Lou's part allowed my dogs to get out. Fortunately either Keith caught my crafty old girl on the run or a kind neighbor grabbed my male escapee. They had been warned about the dogs but since they insisted on parking in the back yard everyday, it was an accident waiting to happen. I'm not the world's best housekeeper by any means but there was tile mortar on my new plank bedroom floor. It was everywhere, doors, door frames, light switches, the wet bar off of our bedroom. They used the sink in the wet bar instead of the outdoor water which means I had mess everywhere in the bar. So the bottom line for me is that most of the finish work has to be re-done because it just wasn't done correctly or completely. little things like caulk between the sink and wall. Not only did they not hang my robe hook, they took the installation kit/hardware for the $18 Moen piece. They didn't build the shower niche so I've got a hanging basket to hold toiletries from the grab bar. It's ok, it works but the niche we agreed on would have been nice. Again, overall, I'm glad that I had the master bath remodel done. It's made a world of difference for my husband. Unfortunately, I'm not happy with the final details. Yes, I have talked to Lou about these things, he has made trips out to work on some items. I get that the job ran over and he was most likely just done. Equally unfortunate is that I have more projects to be done and I won't be calling upon Topline to do them for me.

Details: Full remodel of existing bathroom • Yes, plumbing will need to be relocated • Yes, electrical will need to be relocated • No existing plans, but have a good idea of what I want • Make bathroom handicap accessible • Master (attached to main bedroom) • Residential
