"Jason does a great job in getting rid of tense tight muscles. His massage technique is the best I've ever had. I felt a whole lot better when I left his office than the way I felt when I first walked in. I highly recommend his services as a massage therapist. You won't be disappointed and you will be glad you did choose Jason"

"I always look forward to my next appointment with Siri. It the often the highlight of my month. Being a massage therapist myself I've experienced several different types of body work, where her touch is always my favourite. With endless comfort and compassion offered in each session she never fails to help my physical body meet with my energetic body. There isn't much more I could ask for in a session. Those who try a Sequoia bodywork session will leave without regret. "

"I would like to that this opportunity to tell you how wonderfully trained as a professional Vivienne D'Amico truly is. On more that one occasion, Vivienne took me under her wings and slowly but surely was able to help me with what I thought was "Tennis Elbow," because I play tennis. The pain certainly came from me playing tennis, but she informed me that the injury was "Golfer's Elbow." At any rate, at on point I could not even hit a tennis ball. With the help of Vivienne and some patience on my part, I was able to play my beloved tennis a little at a time, until finally, I reached the point of playing when I wanted and for as long as I wanted. This was because of many factors. First because of Vivienne's massages in the right places on many occasions, the wonderful wrap job that she put on my elbow and the fact that I did what she told me to do. If more people went to Vivienne, more people would start feeling better in no time! "

"I was visiting the Anchorage area and looking for a relaxing massage, and am happy Thumbtack led me to Pili! She does fantastic work--a true professional. She specializes in myofascial massage, and this was my first experience with this type of massage. I really enjoyed it! She does a great job of listening to the client's needs and recognizing what the body is expressing it needs/wants during the massage. I felt relaxed after, and my trouble spots felt a lot better than when I went in to the massage. I would definitely recommend Pili if you're in the Anchorage area."

"I have chronic back pain. I drive by several other massage therapists to get to Michelle. I cannot imagine that any of them could be any better. For me, she is a lifesaver. I lived in Thailand for many years, the home of massage, and I am very knowledgeable about the subject. Thanks, Michelle."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
