Did a great job on fixing plumbing issues and fixed them quickly! Also agreed to look at a leak in our roof and told us exactly how to fix it. Would definitely recommend and will be using him in the future when needed!

Had a roof leak due to a hole in a vent which Francisco sealed. But mainly, he did some excellent masonry work for me by replacing an area of loose stones on the front of my house next to a picture window. Francisco's workmanship and manners were very professional. I definitely recommend him. Walt Leeman

Rolando came out and repaired my carpet and it looks great. Coincidentally, I had some storm damage to my roof and ceiling. He also got this taken care of on short notice before it rained again. He was very professional and his work was excellent!

Vendor was great to work with. I will use them again if i have additional roofing needs. I had multiple roof vents which needed to be sealed properly. Original subcontracted didn't bother to do the job correctly.

I recently hired Greguol Coatings and Remodeling, Gabriel Greguol, as a general contractor for a house I recently purchased in Hoover to finish the unfinished room above the garage to convert it into a 4th bedroom. I am pleased to say that Mr. Greguol exceeded my expectations, and I am very pleased with his work. His work included sheet rock and carpet installation, insulation, painting, electrical work (including light fixture install), flat screen TV mounting, and roof repair. It was nice and convenient for me to be able to hire one person to handle everything. Although he does not do heating and air, he provided me with insight that I was able to use when I hired an heating and air company. Mr. Greguol was a true professional. He was efficient, detail-oriented, reliable, on-time, knowledgeable of all aspects of construction/remodeling, and very personable. I never had to call Mr. Greguol to say, “where are you, why are you not working on the house?” He showed up each day and on time, and stayed on the job without interruption. Above all, Mr. Greguol was trustworthy. This was my first time hiring a general contractor and in all honesty I was nervous due to horror stories that I have heard from others regarding conducting business with general contractors (i.e. making short cuts, being dishonest, taking the money but not completing the work, poor workmanship). My experience with Mr. Greguol was indeed the opposite. He was transparent, honest, honored his word, and anticipated and informed me of construction issues ahead of time and readily offered timely solutions. He completed all of the agreed upon work in our signed contract, he was easy to work with (I never had to argue with him about anything), and he made sure that I was satisfied with his work. And the gentlemen and crew that worked with/for him were professional and worked diligently. Last, Mr. Greguol provides a guarantee on his workmanship. I have not had to call him back to fix something related to his work, but I am 100% confident that if I do that he will come to make the necessary fixes. I am providing Mr. Greguol with my strongest recommendation. If other house/construction related needs arise for my future needs, undoubtedly I plan to consult with and re-hire Mr. Greguol. Working with him was safe and stress-free. I recommend Mr. Greguol for your construction/general contracting needs and I am confident you will have a similar experience.

Miguel fixed the corner of my roof which was weak from water. Miguel came to my house, gave me an estimate and fixed the roof all in one day. He was timely, proficient and extremely professional. I would not only use him again but I strongly recommend him for your job. Thank you again Miguel for all that you did for me and my family.

My close friend and her husband are getting ready to move just outside of Birmingham but they bought a fixer upper so it's taking longer. We we're looking at different roofing companies because the roof there was horrible! We both found blue Angels (loved the name) and gave them a call to explain the situation. Even with them knowing she was far away from there they still we're able to fix the home in less time than they had originally said! They were great about updating them, pricing, time! She went down there last weekend to check it out and was completely impressed and satisfied! Thank y'all so much!

Josh and his team were terrific. I had some gardening and landscaping work done, along with a roof installed on my pergola. Josh made professional recommendations on various shrubs and I was happy to take his advice. He and his crew returned to make some extra adjustments to the roof and I'm very pleased with the work. I have already hired Meggs Lawn Care to do another gardening and landscaping project ... both costs were very reasonable. I'll post photos of both projects when the latest one is done.

Mark and his crew did what they said what they would do and did it when they said they would do it. They also stuck by their estimate and did good work. I would highly recommend them and wouldn't hesitate to call them to do a third job for me! They installed my insulation, metal roof, siding and floor. I could not be more thrilled with how it all turned out. Very good communication throughout the entire process and they answered any questions or concerns I had immediately and effectively. Can't go wrong with these guys.

Derrick installed both my kitchen cabinets and my master dressing room cabinets. Facing several obstacles such as sloping floors, uneven walls and and a wavy ceiling, he had quite a job facing him. My cabinets are perfect - you would never know by looking at them all he had to overcome. For my dressing room he took my ideas and truly brought them to life. I could not be more pleased! Professional, hard-working, honest, creative and great value for the investment are all words I would use to describe Derrick.

We are very pleased with the work done for us by Muncey and Son's. From the initial free inspection thru to the completion of all the repairs and new roof, it was easily less than a week to have it all done and to our satisfaction. We were very impressed that the new roof itself was installed in less than a day. Mr Muncey worked with us and our schedule and delivered on the work that was needed. If you have had recent storm damage to your roof do yourself a favor and call Muncey and Sons and let them take care of your home just like we did. Quality work done very efficiently.

Over the past several years, I've had Ricky to do several projects around my home - i.e. install metal roof, siding, window and door replacement, enclose a set of stairs, pour a concrete driveway pad, and build a retaining wall. I have never been disappointed with the workmanship of him or the men he has working for him. I have no reservations recommending Ricky Moore to anyone.

Jim and his crew were dependable and very helpful in my home remodeling project. They provided me with a new roof, new windows and other miscellaneous jobs as needed. They completed each job in a professional manner. Jim was always available to communicate, respond and make helpful suggestions. The neighbors across the street made comments that the new windows looked so nice they wanted to also have new windows installed. Jim and his crew will show up ready to work and they will get the job done right.

Hendricks Construction Company (HCC) renovated my 1980's single family home. They installed a shingle roof, hard wood floors, new kitchen countertops, ceiling fans, and painted the entire house. They also converted an open space to an office by a building wall with beautiful pocket doors; This required moving electical outlets as well. HCC even fixed the clogged septic tank sewer lines. Having one crew in my home to complete this entire project was priceless. I also highly recommend HCC for their quality work, timely service, and very respectable crew. Birmingham, AL

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

      • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
        • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
      • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
      • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
      • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
      • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
