Nat did a great job tackling several project around the house (dimmer install, snaking clogged drain) - you could really tell he put in as much effort for us as he would have at his own house. Much more reasonably priced versus calling a professional electrician/plumber separately. Thanks Nate!

We had a big, not easy interior paint job and lucked out with Randy Crumpton Painting. Our house is over 60 years old and the walls needed lots of work. There were at least 6 holes that had to be patched, lots of "artwork" decorating the wall from our 3 year artist, ceilings with water damage, and banged up trim. Randy came out to give us an estimate and was very thorough about addressing all of the work that needed to be done. Every inch of wall, ceiling, and trim needed attention! I really liked the fact that I had a contract to review in a timely manner and that this company is legitimate with regards to business license, references, and insurance. Randy and his employees went above and beyond in making our house look fabulous and I really appreciated their attention to detail. Of the three estimates we got for the job, Randy's was the only company that was insured and his pricing is very reasonable and competitive with the other companies. It is very difficult to find honest contractors and we hit the jackpot with this one. They showed up in a timely fashion and were very professional all the way around. He even called the week after the painting was finished to make sure that everything was still to our liking. I highly recommend Randy Crumpton Painting and look forward to using them again in the future.

Latta Paint and Flooring did an amazing painting job on our downstairs renovations. He was extremely reliable and worked daily to get the job done for our deadline of carpet installation. Latta was very professional, and always cleaned up after his work was done. We ended up hiring him to complete the painting for the rest of the house. I would highly recommend him for any of your painting needs, and we plan on calling him for future improvements.

Mr Moore did interior home painting for me. He was a Professional with a capital "P". He quoted me a reasonable price and did all that he agreed to do within budget and in the time frame that he said he would. He did all the needed prep work and the paint job was great. All the paint lines were straight and he cleaned up afterwards with no mess behind. I would refer to others.

Jason has not only painted rooms in my house but he painted a 10, 000 sq ft building that I built in Gardendale. The building is extremely modern with open ceilings and exposed duct work. He and painted all of the ceilings as well as the entire inside which had intricate architectural layout. The end result was absolutely beautiful. He pays specific attention to detail and color perfection. I consider Jason to be more than just a painter....he is an artist! He is extremely intelligent and very meticulous. He has great insight to design and pleasing his clients. If you are looking for a hard worker with a lot of experience, I would highly recommend you trust Jason!

I worked with Josh to have him do power washing for a relative's house. He was able to do this work and correspond with me even while I was out of town. We just communicated via thumb tack first and then email and he even sent me pictures of the completed job afterwards. I was also able to pay Josh via my online bill pay through my bank.(since I am out of town)..so my banked mailed him the payment. Great job and would highly recommend and work with Josh again.

Miss victoria is amazing at what she does. She and her staff worked with me on a specific request. I just had twins and have a mobility issue and needed somebody to help get the house in shape and keep it so. She worked with me on price and so far I am extremely happy with the work that is been done.

He is passionate with what he does, he is details oriented as if it was his own. I am very much pleased with the job on my kitchen ceiling. I do know how difficult it is removing popcorn ceilings, particularly where some areas were painted on but he did it by doing an awesome JOB! I couldn't be any more happier. My neighbours complimented him when they visited my kitchen the next day. Will definitely call him on my next task. Thumbs up!

Steve was professional and the quality of his work was excellent. He pressure washed the house before painting and caulking. Up front we knew any board replacement would be extra from the original Quote. Steve did have to replace a few boards however he sent me pictures and asked my permission. I was very satisfied with the finish product.

I had built 2 houses, and hired Tamara (Steadfast Painting) to do all the painting in both houses. Not only did she do a fantastic job, she saved me money. The job was completed in a time frame that was less than any other painter that I talked with and with better workmanship. I will use steadfast painting in the future and recommend her to any and all that need painting done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
