We needed lots of cleaning--window washing, cleaning fan blades, wiping down cabinet fronts plus the vaccuming, dusting and other cleaning. They also changed the bed. They certainly earned five stars.

Kathy had a HUGE task ahead of herself with my home! I am disabled & my home literally became an overwhelming, cluttered mess over time! I kept believing I would get it all done gradually, but after doing one room, it would end up the same way, never allowing me to get the whole house clean, all at once! It was exasperating, as well as too embarrassing to have someone come help me, the way it looked! Ultimately. I HAD NO CHOICE! I HAD TO hire someone to help me, because I had company coming on short notice! It took more than just one afternoon, to make my home peaceful & clean again, but Cathy was committed to get the job done! I really appreciated that, as well as her not making me feel worse than I already did! If anything, she made it seem like it wasn't as big of a deal as I had thought, although I knew it was! Sometimes I worked alongside her Cathy, and found her to be very personable. I definitely recommend her!

Jason painted my living room and kitchen. He was VERY professional (always referred to me as Ms. my name) even though I am younger. I had other guys give me a quote who were inappropriate, but he was not. He picked up the paint, arrived on time with all needed supplies, and did a fantastic job. He even came back a few days later to fix something that was the original developer's fault! I highly recommend him... he did a great job at a very fair price, and I will definitely use him in the future for other home repairs.

To date, Rick and his team have completed three jobs for me: 1) Replace rotten garage door opening trim board and paint to match as well as fix a loose shingle and flashing around my chimney, 2) New replacement double gate and replace several boards on my fence, 3) Stain new gate and replaced boards. I can be a tough customer. As an engineer, I expect work to be done to my standards - as I would do it. Not only did Advanced Roofing Solutions complete all of these tasks on time and on budget, but the quality of their work was excellent. I have found Rick and his team to be honest and trustworthy people who take pride in their work, and it shows. They will be back in the Fall to stain my entire fence. I have found it difficult to find a company here in Huntsville that does good work at a reasonable price. My search is over. There is no question that I would call Advanced Roofing Solutions for any work I need taken care of around the house.

Ron installed a security light outside my garage, replaced a florescent light with an LED and hung shelving in the storage room plus a few odds & ends inside the house, including lighting my gas fireplace logs, which I had not been able to do. He was very pleasant and polite, doing all that I asked. I was happy that I selected him through this site.

Reason for the repair: Rain water leaking around the chimney and water damage to the chimney corner posts and roof sheathing. The following work has been performed by BP Construction: 1. Chimney and roof sheathing inspection. 2. Installation of ice and water shield and metal flashing around the chimney. 3. Installation of new PVC trim over the corner posts and around the top of the chimney. 4. Replacement of damaged chimney and roof sheathing. Prior to the repair the scope of the necessary work was described to me in detail. The work has been performed by BP Construction professionally, efficiently and according to the written specification and estimate. As the customer, I am very satisfied with the quality of the repair. Photos of the chimney before and after the repair are attached to this review.

Izzy and his employees professionally completed a project on my brick home. The project included: repair and replacement of rotted and damaged fascia and soffit over the porch and garage; Repair of the rotted base of one porch column and correction of the alignment of the two others. A section of damaged garage door weatherstrip was replaced. The trim was painted changing the color. I am very pleased with the work and highly recommend B & B Painting.

David was great! He came and gave me a quote and scheduled to do the work in the same week. He showed up when he said he would. It is very hot in our master bedroom and we closed off several vents through out the house with no relief. He added another vent and now I can have a good nights sleep without waking up in a pool of sweat. I did not want a window shaker because we live on the first floor and didn't want to be an easy target for criminals. He even cleaned up as if he was never in my room. I am very pleased and will use him again.

Okorie Mass is my stepfather, and he surprised me with a room makeover for Christmas while I was away from home. My living room was not being used and had eggshell walls. It was just kind of blah really. He painted the living room gray and did an accent wall to tie in my favorite color, black. He also mounted my tv and changed out the outlet covers from beige to black. The paint, mounted tv, and new light and outlet covers made my living room come to life and has become my favorite room in the house for my tv time and entertaining guests.

Will set up a 6ft privacy fence in my backyard. He was extremely responsive and explained the whole process perfectly for a first time home buyer! The job actually ended up being a lot more difficult than planned and he stayed there hours on end to get it done within the time period we had talked about. My fence looks amazing and gorgeous! One corner of it was actually really weird from an existing fence and he made it match up perfectly so that my escape artist pup doesn't get out. I will definitely be using Will again! Thanks!

Bill helped me out by pointing our front steps. We have about 10 brick steps that are about 8 feet wide. Now they look fantastic. He also replaced several broken cinder blocks under the house. Unfortunately, he (or his helper) left a lot of the old blocks and some trash under and around the house. We also had a broken brick on the side of the house he replaced. It took quite a while to get him out to us, but his price was unmatched and he seems to have done some good work.

We have hired the EDM Group multiple times for home improvement projects. They have added a luxury master bath to our home as well as doing major renovations to our kitchen area. Darren Minor is trustworthy, reliable, honest, and attentive to requests. He is quite worthy of an "outstanding" rating, in my opinion. Mrs. J. Noe, Manchester, TN.

Mr. Willoughby replaced a fan for me, replaced porch lights, a storm door and mailbox. He also built a beautiful small porch to replace out small concrete stoop, made custom shutters for us and painted the front door. He is very comfortable to have around, easy to talk to, fanatical about his work and trustworthy. I will have him back for future work including a bathroom remodel.

Daniel and his crew did an excellent job on replacing my roof. They were able to remove many layers of shingles and decking in a fast and professional manor. Service after the sale was also good. When I noticed a small problem days later, his crew came out immediately and fixed it. Competitive prices too.

          About

What makes us and our work different from other companies is that we DO NOT use sub contractors to do our jobs. All jobs are done by Universal Windows employees who are taught and trained in this area specifically. So you know exactly who you have working on your home and not any Tom, or Harry who ever the other window companies decide to sub contract your home out to. We make sure our job is done in a timely and professional manner. Also, the remaining balance is not paid untill you the customer has completed out Completion Certificate and are 100% satisfied.

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

          • Trim repair:
            • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
            • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
          • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
          • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
            • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
            • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
              • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
