Introduction: I have a B.A. in International Studies and French from the University of Central Arkansas, as well as a Master's degree in Education: Teaching, Learning and Leadership from Arkansas Tech University. I lived for a semester in France and a summer in Québec, and I have near native fluency in French. I am also completing certification in teaching ESL (English as a Second Language). Currently, I have 7 years of teaching and tutoring experience: online, one-on-one, small group, and in the classroom. I love helping people achieve their language learning goals, whether it's improving their English or French for a job, class, or simply for personal enrichment.

I am the Dept Chair of Foreign Languages for Landry Academy and have worked with Mademoiselle Berkau for three years. I have been more than satisfied with her performance as our French instructor. She is a near native, fluent speaker of French and has taught all three of our levels. She is prompt, dependable, hard-working and fully devotes herself to her students. Mademoiselle Berkau always went above and beyond what was required of her, providing an excellent and varied program of instruction as well as having positive and constant communication with her students and their parents outside of class. Her character and moral standing are beyond reproach. Mademoiselle Berkau and I also worked together twice in the mission field, ministering to and teaching ESL to Haitian refugees in the Bahamas. She easily learned a lot of Creole to better communicate with the refugees and taught the rest of us some Creole, too! She researched and created the ESL study program that we used with the refugees, which was highly successful and is still being used by the local missionaries. Mademoiselle Berkau is self-motivated and is an effective leader and team player. I cannot think of a single thing Mademoiselle Berkau would need to improve upon!

Back in 2010, from January to May, I have worked with Grace in a group at uni, we were given a selection of texts to translate from English to French. I can remember she was really good with explaining sentences or words I didn't know. She would give examples or synonyms when needed. Her level in French was correct enough, which helped a lot when I was explaining french notions myself. Still now, when I am not sure with pieces I need to write in English, I contact her so that she can help me out ! =)

Grace is one of the most patient and helpful tutors I have ever experienced! She is completely understanding and easy to learn from yet thorough, while maintaining a great knowledge of the subject and ability to transfer knowledge to the pupil.

Miss Berkau was my teacher for French I and French II. I had a lot of personal life issues come up in my second year and she was so good to help me still pass with flying colors. She's awesome!

Mademoiselle Berkau is a kind, friendly teacher. She carefully explains every topic thoroughly so that her students can understand it, but if one of them does not understand, she provides helpful examples and one-on-one explanations until the student "gets it". She makes French fun and uncomplicated.
