Colbey is great! In just one lesson I learned a some helpful terminology, and even played a few notes and chords. It is clear that Colbey loves not only playing guitar, but music as a whole. He is very energetic and makes the lesson fun. He is very knowledgable in music and a skilled musician. He was very patient with my ultra beginner status. I've cut my nails in preparations for many future sessions.

Bill worked with my fourteen-year-old daughter for six months, and the time she spent working with him was excellent. She was interested in learning classical guitar, and Bill worked with her from basic technique up through her first full piece. Bill's instruction was focused, if a bit heavy at times, and he always had a plan about where he was trying to get my daughter to go. He always let us know why whatever my daughter was working on was important and how it fit in to her long-term goals. Most importantly, Bill made the guitar exciting and interesting for her, and got her to practice. She would take time from her day just to work on basic things because she wanted to be able to do the things Bill was showing her.

About

Learn how to play guitar through learning some of your favorite songs. I've been playing guitar/singing for almost 24 years now. I've never had the need to know theory. It definitely has it's place and it's extremely important in some situations, but developing your ear and developing a feel for music separates players from others. I find it's more fun and interesting to learn how to play guitar by playing music you love, not by learning chord charts and theory. The goal of my lessons is for each student to walk away knowing how to play some of their favorite songs. In the process, I show them what chords they're playing and how they can apply those chords to other songs. This results to students learning other songs on their own and developing their ear along the way.
