"My husband raved about his massage with Miguel. The facility was clean and comfortable. Miguel customized my husbands massage in response to some old injuries and his recent athletic events. Miguel made sure that my husband felt comfortable during this experience as it was my husbands first professional massage. The best thing was that Miguel is by appointment only so my husband was able to schedule his massage when he was available which happened to be a Saturday morning. Miguel was extremely flexible and went above and beyond our expectations!"

"I have been going to Tim for my massages for sometime now. I was having trouble with soreness and stiffness in different parts of my body. He has done a wonderful job helping to remove the problems I was having. I had the massages done at his studio and they lasted one hour. Work done was very professional and was always done on time. Massage is done in a very relaxing atmosphere. The quality of massage is outstanding. I continue to see Tim for my massage every two weeks..I strongly recommend Tim if you are in need of a massage. "Andrea was simply amazing. I have seen many massage therapists due to my lower back and hamstring issues and she was my far the most thorough and definitely has what it takes for a real deep tissue massage. She is second to none as far as I am concerned and you would be a fool not to give her a try. "

"Wally has always been very professional.I have seen hime dozens of times. In one particular visit. Wally had worked on my back and neck and shoulders. I had terrible pain. He was able to really locate and massage out the area where I had pain. He worked my neck and shoulders for nearly an hour and my back for, i would say about half an hour. I love Wally's massage's because he doesnt do alot of talking. When I am in pain I certainly dont want someone making small talk while they are doing their work. Which in my experience so many others have. When I walked out of there I felt alittle sore but the following days to come. I did not have the knot's or pain that I had, had when I went in there. I will definitly see Wally and again and referr him to others. Answering the last question. Not a thing! I was very happy with Wally's service."

"My fiancé and I had an hour each, in home massage with Jenn last Friday evening. We've both experienced many massage therapists and agree that Jenn is among the best! We didn't know what to expect as this was our first experience with Thumbtack. Jenn turned out to be quite the find! I love deep tissue and she was able to get deep into my muscles and still left me very relaxed. We were so pleased that we are scheduled for another round in 2 weeks!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
