I had met and talked with several lawyers before hiring Matt and I never had any send thoughts about my decision. Matt was awesome the entire time, always available to answer my questions and help relieve any stress I had had. 12 out of 10, would hire again but hopefully it won't be necessary.

I had a great experience using this law firm for my criminal charges. I was wrongfully charged with domestic violence. I was scared and didn’t know what to do. I talked with a bunch of lawyers and felt the best about the Hogle law firm. I had my charges dismissed and I’m so glad I took the time and went with my gut on hiring them.

He was an amazingly honest, ethical easy to get ahold of lawyer. Every time I had a question, he always took the time to respond to it. He responded to my emails or phone calls sometimes within the hour and no later than the next day - super communication. He worked really hard for me and my case and I feel totally blessed to have him as my lawyer - I would recommend him to anyone who wants a honest, ethical, hard working, easy to communicate with and experienced lawyer. He restored my faith in lawyers ! THANK YOU

Stuart assisted me throughout my bankruptcy chapter 7 and also my massive tax debt. I can't say enough about the impeccable service that I experienced. Anybody who has used lawyers in the past no that promptness and being frugal are two things most lawyers lack. Stuart was completely both. He showed a visible concern for saving me money while at the same time giving me is knowledgeable expertise.

Mr. Jamieson went above and beyond the call of duty from day one. I'm one to ask a lot of questions but he didn't mind at all. A matter of fact, he always answered my e-mails immediately. His answers were always explained so that I could understand and then some. Mr. Jamieson always would do what he said he would do. If he wasn't able to address one of my questions at that particular moment, he would say so. He was completely up front and honest about everything all the time. Mr. Jamieson, definitely has renewed my trust in attorneys. I wish there were more like him out there. Thanks Mr. Jamieson for all the hard work you put into my case. Words can never express how much I appreciate all you did for me.

I am a single Mom, with a completed case that only a firm specializing in family law, and understanding of my situation would've been able to address. I had made more than a dozen literal phone calls to other attorney's, looked online, did everything suggested to me, and almost gave up, until I stumbled upon Modern Law... What an answer to prayer. I have family and friends of whom practice other areas of law. So I knew that I needed to trust my attorney and I feel comfortable with they're knowledge in family law and with handling my case with y concerns. Well Modern Law has been nothing short of a God send. Before deciding to put my trust in their hands, I looked up their site, and felt connected, like it was more "personal approached help" rather than a "business contract." From the beginning the staff has been amazing. And getting the brief info on my attorney Darin helped me feel comfortable going into my initial consultation. Never once did it cross my mind that Darin wouldn't be able to handle my case. He actually puts a lot more time into his work than most. I have advised him on several occasions to take a break. But that just goes to show his dedication and devotion to his clients and the firm. A success driven person like him will make a good attorney for many more years. As with any case and every attorney we can't expect everything to go how we want at a drop of a dime. Its not just about us... Lawyers have other clients as well, not mention a life outside the firm. If they didn't I suggest looking elsewhere... With that being said... I understand that Darin is busy and can't always get back to me the same day I contact him, and I'm ok with that. Because I trust that with time, greatness is created. If you are dealing with case in family law and your unsure of yourself, maybe you lack confidence, or you feel over whelmed such as I did. Give Modern Law a chance, what harm would it do to take but an hour to speak with an attorney on your case. Remember its not just about a "business contract" it's about a firm that's cares to your case as being personal. Dealing with case in family law shouldn't be taken with anything less than. I can't thank them enough. I rate them 99.9% only because I wish I would've found them before wasting my time and money with other lawyers who weren't any bit caring of my complex complicated case. Darin and Modern Law will devote their time and energy more so than the average firm to give you the courage and confidence to face your case with a profound strength. "No One can make you feel inferior without your consent," Eleanor Roosevelt Oh and I love getting newsletters from Billie. The newsletters help me understand their knowledge with the current law and the different approaches for specific valuable areas of any case.

I would highly recommend Walter Rivera for anyone looking for a great attorney. Mr. Rivera represented me and my daughter. He always responded to any questions or concerns we may have had, keeping us informed every step of the way and fought for us when we couldn't. He did an excellent job handling our case and got us a favorable settlement. I've referred him to several friends and family members. They've all said the same. It's not often that you find an attorney that cares so much about the well being of their clients.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
