Sunset Roofing has replaced the roofs on both my home and my office and outside of occasionally being a little slow with their paperwork, I've found their work to be exceptional. I paid my way through college doing construction and can spot a hack a mile away. What I like most is their firm quote police. Never any add-ons or upcharges. I'm sure there are lots of good roofing contractor's out there - just glad I don't have to keep looking.

Noticed a leak coming for the ceiling after last weeks rain at 1:30 AM, not a nice thing to wake up to, drip drip drip...and of course it was on a Sunday. I called several roofing companies, no one answered their phones and none returned our calls. Ruben with Re-Vamp Roofing got ahold of me that morning and was able to come out THAT afternoon, found the leak within 10 minutes! He took pictures and took the time to explained what needed to be done. He actually gave us two choices, a less expensive "fix" or the more expensive repair, both options were guaranteed. He was able to come out and repair the roof on Wednesday. He took pictures to show what work was done. It was a great experience working with Ruben, I would hire them again.

In preparation for installing solar panels on our roof, I invited 4 roofers to evaluate and improve the condition of our 27 year old roof to ensure optimum function and durability for the life of the new electrical system. Complicating factors included 5 existing skylights and the proposed addition of 3 solar tube light fixtures, to be integrated into the layout of 52 photovoltaic panels. Also, due to the age of the roof, the original concrete tiles are no longer available on the market, so existing materials had to be recycled and supplemented with current tiles in such as a way as to be aesthetically unobtrusive. Clyde Hardacker's analysis and proposed solutions were the most practical. His pricing was not the lowest, but was quite reasonable in the wide range of responses from the other contractors. Going with the lowest bid would have certainly entailed sacrificing some degree of confidence in the quality of outcome. Work was performed quickly and skillfully by his competent crew, with first-hand involvement by Clyde at critical milestones. Clyde also personally performed finishing tasks to ensure the job was done to our complete satisfaction. We are very pleased with the outcome and would enthusiastically recommend Clyde Hardacker for any roofing project.

As a small property manager, I originally hired Ernesto to do one roofing job. After seeing his work and how through he is, that one job expanded to two, to three and now to four. Excellent experience and prices. Would highly recommend.

Had a great experience with this company. Very competitive pricing. They were able to start our re-roofing project within a few days of my post, even during thanksgiving week. They were fast, reliable and efficient. The new roof looks fantastic and has held up after our first rain with the new roof. Would highly recommend.

Alfredo was professional and knowledgeable when he arrived at my home for roofing estimate. He relieved me of much stress I was experiencing in his explanation of my roofing situation and his suggested plan for repairs. I'm looking forward to working with him to complete this project.

Without a doubt, the most honest roofing contractor in the business. Sometimes what you thought was a huge problem may be only a few dollars to fix. He will shoot straight with you. I have seen him do it time and time again. For new roofs, best pricing and service in the valley. Give him a call, his advice is great!

McBride roofing did an excellent job on our roof! They went above and beyond what we ever expected. It was the little details that they included that convinced me that they needed a 5 star review. For example, they noticed that the under-layment was curling under because of the shape of the roof at the edge, and they included a metal rim all around the roof so that the water would drain better. Steve McBride came met with me several times in the week they were working to inform me of their progress. After the job was completed they sent me hundreds of before and after photos, and we couldn't be more satisfied with their work. I recommend them without hesitation.

Ernie did a fantastic job repairing my roof. Not only was his bid in line with my budget, he was the ONLY contractor that caught a second damaged area of my roof. He took the time to explain exactly what needed to be done and how he was going to fix the problem. He is definitely someone that I highly recommend as a trustworthy roof contractor.

Thomas, George & Hugh Stewart of Sun Flex Home Improvements, LLC were all polite and had their roofing crew install a new roof in a professional, efficient manor. Thomas, who did our estimate, indicated the job could be done in (1) one day. It actually took (3) days but the job looks great. I would recommend them to family and friends!

A 60 ft. tree fell on my house. I had a different contractor that made my house worse. I hired Thomas from Albion and He put me at ease. He put the house back together with speed and even helped me with the insurance company. Amazing work.

The skill and attention to detail that Charley took in the construction of a 2.5 car garage attached to our newly built home is very impressive. He takes pride in a job well done---from concrete to siding, to roofing. Afterwards, we wish he had been available to take part in a greater portion of our home build. He left the area spotless, unlike the other contractors who left nails, staples, trash, and boards strewn all over, It may be their work space today, but later, our grandchildren's safety was a concern. In addition, to create a quality project, Charley often fixed the poor install of others, especially if it affected the integrity of his project. He always kept us apprised of any issues and stayed on schedule. We are very pleased with his work and would recommend him as someone who still believes in quality and exceptional customer service.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

      • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
        • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
      • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
      • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
      • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
      • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
