I had a great experience with Done Right Plumbing. They returned my call promptly, provided a quote the same day, and completed the job the next day. I was pleased with the work and I look forward to calling them in the next few months to complete the next phase of our bath and kitchen renovation project.

They painted our kitchen and bathroom cabinets. The cabinets went from ugly yellow oak to white in the kitchen to gray in the bathrooms. The price we were quoted was very fair for the amount of cabinets needing work and the quote included all labor and materials. I would definitely hire them again

Richard and his partner did some drywall repair for me, and he also adjusted my front gate. To make the job mutually beneficial, he gave me the option of painting the drywall repairs myself. At my request, he left the plastic sheets from the drywall repair to make the painting easier. I wish I had found him earlier since all these repairs were fixes of work performed 6 months ago. I'd hire him again!

Jose is amazing! He and his crew do fantastic work for a very fair price. He painted kitchen cabinets and baseboards for me and the quality of work is exceptional. He uses high quality materials and he isn't satisfied until the job is perfect. I will definitely be using Jose for all painting needs in the future.

We contracted with chuparosa painting to paint our home, yard fence, wrought iron accents and stain wood gate at fence. Each aspect of the job was flawless and the pricing phenomenal (we got the wood stain done for free as a bonus for contracting same day). Our color scheme was almost white over a darker tan and it covered really well you could never tell our house was formerly so dark. The paint crew kept there work spaces neat and provided feedback throughout the process as to what they would be doing step by step and allowed us access in and out of the house during the job. I would hire again and wish George and Hugh the best.

Quality Painting completed multiple projects on the home I own in Scottsdale. These included: Complete exterior house painting, interior painting and several woodwork repairs. Daniel provided a competitive bid, purchased all paint and materials, and completed the project on time, and within budget. They were extremely professional, and went above and beyond my expectations. Daniel even took my screens to have them replaced and picked them up to install them! We will definitely hire them again. They did a fantastic job, and the house looks great! I have absolutely no reservations in recommending them.

So I am redeveloping this mid-century home off 16th Street and Osborn and decided to open the kitchen and living room into one grand room tearing out a load-bearing wall and placing a rustic oversize glulam as a load support. This was a tricky and complicated job. Had lot's of guys come out to quote and kick the tires, but most were full of BS or going to sub-out the job or ridiculous on price because they didn't understand the job. After spending 15 minutes speaking his brother I knew I had the right crew. They were able to read the engineering sheets and even gave some valuable insights on how to pour the footing using a pretty cool technique that preserved the original floor. When they started the job there was no jerking around. Just A@#holes and elbows, 3 guys grinding out a tough day of work. All in all, they weren't cheap, but not expensive either. They worked great as a team and got a hard job done timely. I will use these guys again for rough framing, sub-framing & drywall and to some extent finishing work. They made my remodel go a whole lot smoother.

Roger responded in a timely manner to my messages and did a great job at painting home and still finished on the day he said he would finish even though his helper got sick. Now my house looks likes it's new. He went above and beyond and covered up block pillar so I could paint fence door and not have to worry about painting pillar. Thank you!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
