I contacted several painters for this project. The project was to paint my entire house. Jeff was the one who responded first. He made an appointment with me to look at the job and explained everything and provided me with a written estimate before he left my home. Jeff's professionalism far exceeded anyone else I had contact with. He has a great vision and his ability to explain it really is unsurpassed. He offered color schemes and other ideas as well. His work was excellent and we couldn't be happier. I have been in the building trades for 30 years and it was nice to deal with an honest hard working professional that really cares about his work. His pride shines through in the work he does. I would highly recommend Jeff to anyone who wants a painless experience to get a job done right the first time. Gary

David and his crew were great! Very responsive when asking questions, even through email and texts, which were important for me because of other daytime commitments and my inability to coordinate details over the phone. All details were discussed thoroughly, and they were able to add a few extras that I didn’t think of until they were here. They were always on time and professional from beginning to end, explaining each step as they went. Their work was very detail oriented and they did a fantastic job on my popcorn removal, retexturing, and painting. Best thing is that they do a wide variety of types of construction jobs, so I’m already thinking of hiring them again for a new project. I enjoyed my experience with this company and I’m sure you will as well. ***Just as a note: they may ask for a deposit upfront in order to purchase supplies. At first this made me feel uneasy since I had never met them in person, but I did my due diligence and checked out their company beforehand after they supplied me with their company info. All turned out well and we had no issues with giving the card number over the phone. Just wanted to put that out there because I hadn’t noticed this detail mentioned in their reviews. I now feel comfortable doing that with this company. Just a little reassurance.

From the first moment, I was impressed by Nic! He and his team were completely professional and clearly focused on making sure my wife and I were satisfied. He did all that I would expect and many small tasks I thought I would have to do after the painters left. I am a cost conscious consumer and was very satisfied by the price and absolutely thrilled with the quality of the work done by Finesse Painting. I would recommend these guys to anyone!!

Adrian was the best decision I've made in a long while. After many experiences with handymen and painters who cancel or come late or rush through work, Adrian arrived on time after texting me to say he was on his way; he did all of the work carefully and completely, and then helped me with three small items even after I had already paid him. But all of that is important, but pales in significance that my dog adored him. Sat next to him on each project, licked his face when he finished a job, and I could hear Adrian asking him to read the directions he was sitting on.... the fact that he's a Vet is one reason I chose Adrian; the way he acted and his skill are why I've asked him to return for other projects.

I'm from out-of-state and knew of no painters. Thumbtack recommended several and from the beginning of the communication I was feeling drawn to Jose. He was able to make a personal visit to meet me, see my space, and give helpful suggestions toward color. Every interaction with him was timely, professional, and instilled confidence in hiring him. Today, he and his two crew members arrived on time and quickly set about prepping. Not only did they protect my furniture and floors from accidental splatters, but they cheerfully removed all window blinds, drapes and mounted flat screen tv. Jose is kind, personable, and hard-working. I'm very satisfied with the work and would not hesitate to recommend him. I would definitely call upon him for any future painting needs. Jose understands customer service and does everything in his power to complete the job to your satisfaction.

I had gotten myself into a mess with a DIY project and finally gave in and decided to hire professionals. I spoke to a couple of painters but when I met Daniel McGrew of Quality Painting I was sold. He understood the issues I had had and was very willing and able to help me resolve the problems I had even though it meant starting over and doing it right. I was thrilled with his estimate and they pointed out that the dry wallers had not done such a super job in the kitchen so they asked me if I wanted that resolved too and Greg gave me a very reasonable quote to make the kitchen ceiling much better too. I just got home to see the finished result and I couldn’t be happier. It all looks fantastic and I can finally start putting things back where they belong and pull this place together. And they left my home in immaculate condition. I recommend Quality Painting very highly. Daniel and Greg McGrew were wonderful.

Larry and Brenda were courteous and professional with the rather small project I had which was painting all the wood trim around the exterior doors and also the backyard patio where wood was replaced during a roof replacement. Did a great job. Plan to contact them when I'm ready to paint my house.

I had an interior and exterior job done by these professional painters and they had done an excellent job. They cleaned up after them selves and were on time. It's the little things that make one want to work with a company. They really put the customer first. Thank you!!!

Esau and his crew were awesome! As a Licensed Contractor myself, I've worked with many painters. I can honestly say that these guys were one of the best and I'll be giving them all my painting work on future jobs. In fact, my neighbor just hired them.

A relatively small paint job - 168 feet of an exterior patio. He was the first, and only of 9 Thumbtack possible painters who actually gave me a quote based on the picture and measurements I'd provided. The other eight wanted a phone call, and I don't have time for that. His initial quote seemed reasonable. Then I asked him to get the paint which has the chemicals in it so that walking on it in the summer wouldn't feel like walking on coals. Not cheap paint, two gallons for two coats = $100. In all, from request to job being done was three days, and very reasonable. He is easy to work with. He did what he said he would do, was timely, and all for a good price. I would use him again.

I was impressed in every way with the work done in my kitchen and living room. Jules (the owner I believe) was very patient with my many changes in colors. Not only was she patient she was helpful in the decision process. The workers were super friendly and clean. I didn't notice any spots on the carpet or paint on items in the home (an issue I have had in the past with other painters). Jules was a total hoot over the phone and I will definitely be calling Paris Painting in the future if/when I decide to tackle other rooms in the house.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

    • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
    • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
    • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
    • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
