As part of remodeling the new home we had just purchased and not yet moved into, a new exterior painting of the house was needed. We originally had a painter whom we thought would do a quality job under 3 days time. However, we stopped that painter from proceeding following 7 days of hardly any progress. We found Jeff on this website as a result of an internet search. In summary Jeff completely finished the paint work per our requirements and even better. He is a true painter, knows how to match colors for the house, and does a quality job in 2 days or less. His price is even better! Not only are we enjoying the fruit of his labor every time we look at the house, we have since given him the interior painting job of another home left dirty by the tenants. He also did an excellent job epoxy-coating the garage surface which was stained with oil.

Over all did a fantastic job! I had been stressed on getting my roof repaired for over a year (since I bought the house). No matter how much we coated the flat roof, it kept leaking into the bathroom and getting standing water. I had multiple friends refer me to "their guy" then was told it needed to completely be redone and use foam. WRONG. Did I mention the outrageous price tags for foam which is insulation and wears down AND caused the mess in the first place. Steve came over and was able to give me an honest estimate on what the issue was right away while pointing out how he could tell, then gave me a price that was absolutely fair. He had my roof done quickly and in time for the monsoon so when the first heavy rain hit, I wasn't even the slightest worried. Definitely should be your first choice!

Clyde is experienced and professional. We knew that as soon as he took the time to remove the tiles from our roof to give us an accurate appraisal of our roof issues for an estimate. His price was fair and the work was done within a week of the estimate.

Oh man these guys are great. Dealt with George and he is just super smart and has a TON of great information that I truly didn't even consider before meeting up with him. George and his crew installed a new roof and I couldn't be happier with his pricing and my new roof. You can't go wrong getting your new roof with Arizona Native Builders. Highly recommended! Thanks George and AZNB.

Larry and Brenda were courteous and professional with the rather small project I had which was painting all the wood trim around the exterior doors and also the backyard patio where wood was replaced during a roof replacement. Did a great job. Plan to contact them when I'm ready to paint my house.

New patio roof and roof repair repair. Jim did a fantastic job. He kept me well informed during the process. He was honest, as the final price was not as much as the estimate. I would highly recomend him and his staff.

Needed a small roof repair done to comply with home inspection. No other roofer would come for less than $500 minimum. Gilbert came on Sunday, fixed it, gave me a year’s warranty, charged me a reasonable amount and was extremely nice. Can’t go wrong with this company.

Looks good. Too early to tell. Neighbors had someone else put new shingles on the roof on their house and it was not nailed down properly when the winds came 2/3 of the roof blew away. Jared did what he said he was going to do no more no less. I will give a full review in one year.

Had them out to give an estimate on a repair and a 'remove and replace' job for my clay tile roof. They were very professional, informative, and did a thorough inspection of the roof. They provided documents and pictures when they went over everything that they found. We decided to go with the remove and replace but will be holding off till later in the year due to budget constraints. I would not hesitate to contact them again when we get ready to do the work.

We had Seco Contracting replace our office building roof, both tile and foam applications required. Scott was very sensitive to our time requirements and managed his crews in accordance with our needs. Scott is easy to work with and kept his commitments. I would highly recommend him.

Super responsive and thorough. Had a small water issue and they jumped right on it within hours. Tech was very polite and knowledgeable. Left drying equipment in house overnight and picked up the next day. If the tech was representative of the company's overall performance, it's a very good company.

Working with JPreston was great. We needed a small are of the roof repaired. They showed up on time and did a fabulous job of dealing with the wind damage. I also felt like I could have done a hand-shake deal, because of their honesty and integrity in the way they worked with me. Most of the time I worry about "no shows" and workers that take shortcuts and rip off their customers. But, this was not the case with JPreston.

Diamond Seal roofing systems and Ed Gilson, the owner, did a great job on my roof. It was particularly difficult because of the type of roof that required a silicone product. His quote beat the competition and the quality of the work excellent. He doesn’t cut corners like I’ve experienced in the past. This is a small, locally owned business. I strongly recommend Diamond Seal.

I would suggest Spencer to anyone. I think he is a very honest and trustworthy, sensible, grounded, and kind human being with a lot of heart. He and his crew are independent young men that are hard-working individuals, and I think they should hear and be encouraged by knowing that their customers think a lot of them and appreciate their work. He and his crew got the roof fixed just as the storm hit. Thanks Spence, I'm so grateful. KSL

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
