I've been getting all my work done by Dave for years now. Dave has done some amazing cover-up work as well as reworking old tattoos into works of art. I am most proud of my back piece. It's a pirate scene that covers my entire back. The tattoo is done in sephia tones and there are a lot of personal details in this piece that represent some of my most personal things. Thanks Dave you rock!

it all started one day at your park in swap location. First with just one tattoo and a belly piercing. We became hooked. Once we found out you sold supplies we were sold. We have been repeat customers ever since great service.

All I can say is this artist is one of the best here in arizona . The art that he crates is nothing like you would find anywhere else here in arizona.he's a california artist and you can see it in his black and gray art and portriats . But also did some very beautiful color work on my wife. I have recomended all my friends and family to get tattooed by Wicked he's a very talented and nice guy . He doesn't mind taking the extra time to make your tattoo the way you want it. It was a great experience and the work I got was awesome!if you can get in to get a tattoo by him its well worth the wait and the money.

      About

Juan became interested in art at a very young age. At 12 years old, Juan entered the Valley Metro bus drawing contest, and had his art work displayed on one of the buses for winning. From this point, he was drawing on an everyday basis, oftentimes getting in trouble in class for never putting his pencil down. Not knowing at that time that art would become a career for him in the future, at 15, Juan became interested in tattooing because his older cousin was already involved in the tattoo industry, looking up to artists like Bob Tyrrell, Jose Lopez, and Payaso. Juan took a strong interest in black and grey style tattoo art. Juan got his first tattoo at 16, and decided to never look back, started tattooing immediately after, and found an apprenticeship to learn how to do it right. A few years into tattooing, and it has become his life's passion. Now, he is working at Studio one tattoo as a tattoo artist and learning to pierce. He specializes in black and grey, custom lettering, and portraits. Juan plans on taking his talent to the conventions this year to make his name in the industry. Keep your eye out for this up and coming tattoo talent. He will be taking the tattooed world by storm in the years to come.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.

How much does it cost to get a henna tattoo?

Nationally, the average cost to hire a henna artist is between $100 and $180 per hour. Rates will vary by location and the experience of the individual henna artist; it’s possible to find artists who charge less than $50 per hour. Some henna artists charge an hourly rate, especially for corporate events or festivals where they are providing service to multiple people within an hour. They may also charge flat rates for bridal and wedding services or special events. Here are some examples of average cost:

      • Hourly rate: $65-$85 or more per hour. Price is dependent on event size and number of attendees.
      • Starting rate for minimal palm designs: $15 or more.
      • Henna tattoos covering the hands and wrist and bottom of feet up to the ankle: $175.
      • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the mid-arm and feet to above the ankle: $300.
      • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the elbow and the feet to the knee: $450.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
