- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The pricing system for hiring an attorney is not necessarily complicated, but it is something most people have never experienced before and every law firm has different billing practices. My law firm requires an initial fee payment up front to begin working on a case. The initial fee payment depends on the details of the case, but typically ranges between $3,000-$5,000. As time is spent working on the case, funds are deducted from the initial fee payment based upon the hourly rate of the person working on the case (whether itâÃÂÃÂs an attorney, paralegal or legal assistant) and the amount of time they spend working. We bill in increments of 6 minutes, so that 0.1 equals 6 minutes and 1.0 equals 60 minutes. As an example, if a paralegal spends 6 minutes working on your case at a rate of $135/per hour, $13.50 would be deducted from your initial fee payment. This process is followed for your entire case. If your case is resolved without using the entire amount of your initial fee payment, you will receive a refund of any remaining funds. However, most often, people hire attorneys in contentious situations and as a result their fees exceed the initial fee payment at which time our law firm requires a replenishment payment typically ranging between $2,000-$3,000. That process continues until your case is concluded.
