I was very happy with the whole experience with Imperial Drywall! Rigo was very responsive in giving a fair quote and answering any questions I had. He showed up on time and got right to work. He did a fantastic job of patching the areas then matching and blending the texture, and cleaned up when he was finished. He was great to work with, friendly and polite and very skilled in his craft. Thank you!!

I hired Adrian for a project that involved installing a hanging rod in the closet and anchoring it into the drywall, as well as hanging a piece of artwork. He kept me in the loop as to his arrival time. He was very friendly, professional and completed the job in a timely manner at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend him for any type of home project, and will hire him in the future should I need any kind of assitance.

I didn’t think there was much hope for my leaky, moldy outdated ceramic tile shower with some god-awful floor base that stained so bad. I have a decent house but this shower area was a nightmare. Well I really lucked out getting Ivan via Thumbtack. I heartily recommend him for any drywall, tile and grout creation you might want. He’s an absolute craftsman. He doesn’t just repair, he creates a new design look. Every time I look at my new shower area I am amazed and pleased to find everything is square and plumb, the tiles are cut and installed perfectly and the tile and grout color enhances the new chrome and glass door he picked out. As a matter of fact he picked out everything on account of I have no design sense and, I’m told, I may as well be color blind as to try to pick out something tasteful. No matter to Ivan. Since he knows what he is doing he picked out everything perfectly. He also took time to prepare all the surfaces and treat the area against mold before installing new waterproof drywall and a modern floor and drain area. The he artistically created a tile enclosure like no other I’ve see. It’s not that he increased the value of my home much more than I paid him; it’s not that he worked fast but careful and it's not the very fair price he gave me. It’s because I feel happily amazed when I enter the room and see his craftsmanship. That peace of mind hardly compares with the little he charged me compared to the result I got back. Bonus: He has a pleasing professional personality that is extremely rare in contractors these days. You can trust him to listen to you and still create a masterpiece.

Danna's Drywall provided a top notch service; head and shoulders above the rest. Quick, clean, and professional. Scheduling was a breeze and the price was extremely competitive. What more could you ask for? As a contractor myself, it was easy to see he was extremely qualified to preform the work. To top if off, he had a great attitude and offered joyful conversation while he repaired our ceiling. Texture matched spot on! I would personally recommend this service to anyone needing drywall repairs. Thanks Danna!

QUALITY, SERVICE, & COMPETITIVE prices! My wife and I wanted our attic and walls to be insulated in our 1,466 sqft home. I called a couple different companies (who did NOT answer their phone) to get some prices/estimates. When I first called Thermo Shield, they answered the phone call the first time. I spoke with Nick who was very professional, kind, courteous, and NOT PUSHY. Within 2 minutes to speaking to him, he gave me a pretty solid estimate to do the job and was out at our house the next day to look over the job to be performed. He took his time to explain the process, go over house insulation works, the different types of insulation, and did not try and up-sell anything. He was knowledgeable, informative, and just a nice guy overall. Highlights - Best insulation prices in Arizona. Very professional company. Took detailed time to take photos prior to starting the job. Made recommendations without trying to up-sell. Took before photos to show me exactly what my attic looked like. Took photos during the job to ensure quality was implemented. Took photos afterwards to show the difference. Fixed things that needed fixing even though it wasn't part of the contract. They do the right job the right way. It's very rare a company takes the initiative and performs high quality services without being asked but Thermo Shield did just that! P.S. I usually don't trust most companies but I did my research on Thermo Shield and have no problem recommending them to my family, friends, and neighbors. Best Arizona Insulation Company!!

Venus Homes recently remodeled two of my bathrooms, added an additional full bath, replaced all my plumbing, added a hallway, and tiled my entire house...in less than a month. Narsay was professional, punctual, and was precise in his project coordination. He was able to get a tile guy, electrician, plumber, and drywall guy all to work in perfect order to get the job done cleanly and quickly. The crew was respectful of my house and honest. I had to give them full access to my house while I was at work and nothing ever went missing or was used without my permission. (They never even touched something as small as the thermostat). The entire job was done quickly and well. The tile guy was amazing. His lines and cuts are as good as I've seen. Narsay was communicative and proactive in identifying the best way to make the changes I wanted. I had 3 bids for this project and Narsay was the most positive and enthusiastic of the three. He was genuinely excited and confident about this project. He followed through and made good on his word. There were no surprises or additional costs. Narsay did what he quoted and was reasonable and fair. Multiple friends have requested Narsay's number now that they have seen his work. I highly recommend Venus Homes for your project. I will add photos when I'm done putting in the right furniture and painting the walls. Rob

Noberto did a fantastic job with the drywall on this project and another we've already hired him for. He is one of the best mudsman (if that's such a thing) I've ever worked with. His attention to smoothing over the skim coat is detailed and meticulous. And he taught me the valuable life lesson of not coming to conclusions or making critical judgements until a job is 100% complete.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
