About this pro
I have been to other Personal Trainer's before. I have gone to enough to get a general idea of what to expect. Before meeting Matt, and visiting Underground Fitness I was completely expecting the "car salesman" pitch. I expected to walk into the gym during my first free session and workout for maybe 35-40 minutes then be taken to a big old desk and sold a pile of packages I could not afford. My expectations were shattered, and Underground Fitness broke the Personal Training stereotype for many reasons. First, I explained to Matt my personal goals (shed the fat, tone, and look good for my wedding that was 6 weeks away). Matt listened and was excited to take on the challenge. Second, Underground Fitness offers two free sessions which includes a nutrition plan breakdown. And can we talk about the nutrition plan? Without revealing their secrets it is COMPLETELY attainable and you do not have to buy special meals or starve yourself. Third, Matt Hoodie, the owner, is a walking success story. Matt has been where most of us have been and currently are. He lost a mountain of weight and has shaped his body to what most of us believe to be ideal. His education in Dietetics and Exercise Science offers much more than meets to eye because he can explain his motives behind certain things and teach us what we are doing wrong. Overall, I will never go anywhere else for my personal training needs. I still have a long road ahead of me, however for the first time ever after meeting a trainer I felt like my goals were achievable in within reasonable reach.Apr 12, 2017Verified
I work with Matt Hoodie at Underground Fitness and I recommend him heartily! In just a month, we have made great progress turning a 12 year, 377-pound couch potato into something I can be proud of. Matt has a 4-year degree as a dietitian. With that knowledge and experience he is guiding changes in my eating that are realistic and effective. I am 65 years-old and at workout time, Matt is mindful of my obese history and keeps a close watch on how I am handling the routines. Matt is helping me change the rest of my life for the better!Mar 1, 2017Verified

- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? We initially bring clients in for a consult to discuss their current goals and see if we are a good fit for them. During this session we will explain what we offer and what they can expect from us moving forward regarding their own personal needs. Additionally we will take them through a light physical assessment to see where they are currently with regard to strength and overall fitness.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work? The business owners, Matt and Becky, both have Bachelors degrees in Exercise Science and Dietetics from ASU. In addition, the other trainers have either Bachelors degrees or are nationally certified, and all are put through an extensive training regimen to learn our specific approach to training and nutrition guaranteeing that every client gets the same degree of attention.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?Matt and Becky started for very different reasons, but share the same passion for genuinely transforming people inside and out! Matt was formerly obese, losing 150 pounds in his own transformation process and Becky has always been in love with strength training and healthy living and has always wanted to help others experience that life!
