I've only taken two lessons but I like Michael's very obvious and abundant knowledge, his patience, his personally prepared learning materials, and mostly his sincere enthusiasm. I have been playing guitar for over 45 years and he has already showed me NUMEROUS ways to improve and my own motivation has been reinvigorated. I like that. He's a great guy too. I wholeheartedly recommend him for guitar lessons.
I have taught music all my life. I specialize in guitar and bass guitar, and I teach all styles and all types of music, whether acoustic or electric. This year I received Thumbtack's Best Of 2015 Award for Guitar Theory Instructor, and I am proud to have been chosen. Over the years, I have developed techniques that streamline this learning process. If, for example, you are just beginning, I have a technique called "targets and adjustments" that allows you to learn to play chords and move from one to another easily. And you master this in weeks, not months. If you are someone who has played for some time but find that you're stuck doing the same things, or everything you play sound the same, I teach you to develop your own unique rhythm and strumming patterns for each song you choose to play. Using techniques such as "6 dead strings", you create your own style, without having to practice "model strums." Easier, original, and much more efficient. If you are an advanced guitarist or a professional, I can teach you how to give your performance structure and elegance. Using techniques such as "complimentary pattern evolution" you not only hold the interest of the listener, but take them places they did not expect to go. Lessons include sheet music, tablature, and a written synopsis of each lesson. I also record segments and examples of what we're working on when applicable and email them to you. This way you can listen during the week and easily be reminded of how a particular strum or pattern should sound. Whatever level you are at beginning to advanced you learn in "quantum-leaps". This is not a long term project. I can have you doing what you set out to do in a very short time.
My 8 year old son has just started guitar lessons with Laura and things are great so far. She is patient, organized and pleasant. She comes to our home and we are very happy so far!
I have taken guitar lessons before and it was focused mainly on learning to play songs on the guitar. Like many others, I was a guitar player but not really a musician. If you want to learn music theory, Glen has a method that is fun and interesting that will transform the guitar player into a musician. In addition to this, he reserves time in each session for the student to learn new tunes or guitar techniques of choice. Glen is extremely effective, organized and patient. He will guide you to your goal no matter what level of player you are.
I provide guitar, bass and voice lessons, music theory and college prep music, business and tech. I am the one for you if you are looking for quality music instruction and need a flexible schedule. I do not accept more than six students at a time and do not book lessons back to back; therefore, the lesson pace is more leisurely. More often than not, the lesson time exceeds the half hour or hour allotment (incurring no extra charge). Since I do not teach privately for a living, I can be more flexible than most studios regarding scheduling. For example, I like to book each lesson by appointment with the client; that way, we can both be sure that the client has had enough time to work on the home assignments. Lessons can be every week, every 2 weeks, or every 3 weeks depending on the level of difficulty. Generally with beginners or young students, the lessons should be frequent for the sake of retention and reinforcement (weekly or every 2 weeks). It also is very effective to have the parents attend the lesson (for very young students). Even if you do not consider yourself musical, you can help the child remember what is taught and what is assigned. With the intermediate or advanced students and most adults, I find that they can be "self-taught" to a greater or lesser degree. These students can be given an assignment or concept at one session which they can then apply for several weeks or even months until they are ready or have the time for a new concept. I am sympathetic to the demands of career and family made upon by my adult students, and I realize that in most cases, they are looking for an enriching hobby, a recreational experience, or perhaps a creative and therapeutic activity. The study of music and/or an instrument is all of these, provided that the goals and tastes of each individual are taken into account. I started guitar at age 10 and was professional by age 15. I grew up playing by ear and playing rock and then went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and graduated cum laude with my BA in music education. For 40 years, I have been a "gigging" professional guitarist and bassist in numerous, in-demand general business bands and as a soloist for weddings and such. I have played literally thousands of events of all kinds. I have also been a sound technician, conductor, arranger, agent and music producer. I have taught professionally for 30 years as an instrumental, choral and jazz band/music director, building several fine music programs that continue to this day. As a professional teacher, I am certified and have fingerprint clearance in three states: AZ, ME, and MA. I believe in playing by ear, learning to read music and understanding some music theory. Musical literacy is the ability to efficiently articulate your own ideas as well as communicate expediently with others. I am grateful to be from "both worlds", and I believe that this enables me to relate well with many more kinds of music students. I like having 50% of the ideas for private lessons to come from my students and their joy and passion, while the other 50% will be pursuing the standard training and the path of a true musician. I hope that I can help you on your musical journey! Dave is a very professional and excellent musician. I have been taking guitar lessons from him for four years now and have learned a great deal from Dave. I have greatly improved my playing because of him. Dave is a very friendly and patient teacher and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone who wants lessons.

Mitchel has been giving me guitar lessons now for 2 1/2 months and it has sparked both a new passion and appreciation for music. Having never played a guitar before, it has been a challenging road, but Mitchel has been patient, understanding, punctual, professional, and knows how to come up with creative solutions. We always start and end with a lesson plan so I know where to focus my time and we always have a goal in mind to work toward. I would recommend Mitchel to anyone looking to take up guitar.
