Food was very good & company takes pride in service provided. Our event featured a buffet with seasoned & very tender roast beef & the garlic mashed potatoes were creamy & flavorful. Guests were very complimentary. Dorrenda was easy to work with & very accommodating. I would definitely use this company again.

I used artistic touch catering for a wedding rehearsal dinner. The food was amazing and looked fantastic. They were super responsive the entire time. They worked really hard to make the dinner look absolutely amazing, playing it with flowers and creating a beautiful experience. All of my guests complimented us on the catering and the dinner. My wife said that it was the rehearsal dinner of her dreams, and she is very picky. Fantastic job all around.

Had a great light breakfast buffet today. We had a Greek yogurt bar with some toasted coconut, toasted almonds, brown sugar, fresh berries - Really a hit for our participants for a one day meeting. Assortment of pastries was great too. I highly recommend. Julia Burk, Leadership Network

This is the 3rd time this year we have used Unique Luxury Catering, and they exceed exceptions every time! We have had 2 sit down dinner parties for 12 and 1 ladies luncheon for 36. Each time we have used wait staff to serve the meal rather than a buffet, and the service has been super, and the food even better!

We used this catering service for the welcome party to our wedding weekend that we hosted at a private house with about 60 guests. This is a family business run by Juan Pablo and all the servers that day were his wife and kids. They all did a great job and were very friendly and professional. We had a lot of out-of-town guests so we wanted to give them a taste of local Arizona flavor, Juan Pablo did a really nice job engaging people and telling them what they were getting. We had a taco bar buffet line with ground beef, chicken and chorizo, rice, beans, hot tortillas, guacamole, salsa, etc. Everyone said they enjoyed the food, and Juan Pablo packed up the leftovers for us, which we ate for the rest of the weekend! He also made horchata for our rum horchata signature drinks which was a nice touch. We recommend this business!

We couldn't have been happier with the service and food provided by Chef Alice and Hob Nob Catering. A 25th Anniversary party at our home and dinner for 40 - delicious trays of pre-dinner appetizers - and festive displays on all the tables. Our guests loved the food, and everything was on schedule, working in sync with the flow of the party and keeping everyone stocked with food and drinks. The Hob Nob team provided so much of the cleanup that we had very little left over to do the next day. We will DEFINITELY call Chef Alice for anything we do in the future!

Chef Robin did a tremendous outstanding job catering for my baby's baptism. I will definitely be calling her again for future events. Robin catered delicious food, setup our VIP table for guest and had a separate buffet area for the kids area. She also stayed the whole time during our (very long) event - and all together just took a lot of the stress away, where I knew that area would be handled by her. It felt like all we had to do was show up - instead of slaving over the stove and then getting ready for our event. And another thing I liked about Robin was her availability and flexibility. She is also such a people person - My Family Loves her annndd our guest kept complimenting and asking who made the food and how did we find her? All in ALL Chef Robin deserves a 5 star and more.

Chef Stacey catered an ASU graduation party for 15 people at a private home, and did an excellent job. We are from out of state and it was nerve-wracking to hire a caterer sight unseen, but Stacey put me at ease, coordinated beforehand, arrived on time, and presented a beautiful spread of delicious food. She is excellent at details - the skewers had little curled ends; the cucumbers in the veggie tray were scalloped; the artichoke dip was homemade. I paid for a higher-end appetizer buffet and she did not scrimp on quality in her food choices. As one of many examples, the fruit plate didn't have just "the usuals," but included some higher end fruits such as blackberries and raspberries. The meat and cheese tray was similarly high-end. Desserts were beautifully displayed and delicious. The quantity was very generous and we were able to offer some extra food to my daughter's college-student friends on their way out. Highly Recommend!

Chef Vic did a fantastic job catering our Thanksgiving dinner for 30. He delivered a hot & fresh meal to our counter at 2:00 on Thanksgiving Day--not many caterers are willing to work on the holiday but Vic & his staff made sure we were taken care of & the meal was better than anything I could have accomplished in my home with days of preparation. It was definitely homemade and the price he gave us was more than worth it! The chain stores & grocery stores we looked into were slightly cheaper but a lesser quality by far & required all the heating up & transferring to dishes that makes Thanksgiving so much work to begin with. Can't say enough about how happy we were & our guests were all impressed as well!

Actually VERY GOOD. We had 50 guests for a Caribbean themed engagement party. Jennifer came up with a super buffet dinner- with some dietary requests handled well. Everyone enjoyed the food and there was plenty. If we were to do it again we would tell Jennifer to spice the side dishes up a bit more and hire her or someone else to help us replenish the trays of food and wash up so that we could mingle with guests. Many thanks to Jennifer for a job well done!

This was the first time I ever had a holiday dinner catered, and I couldn't be happier to have come across Rich at RE Catering. He was a most pleasant person to deal with, and true to his word. He delivered exactly what he promised... delicious home made food, piping hot on Thanksgiving afternoon, with plenty of leftovers. He delivered everything from rolls and butter to pumpkin pie and apple pie. The only thing I supplemented was sweet potato casserole. Although catering our holiday meal was supposed to be an exceptional event to accommodate my hectic work schedule, we are now considering having it caterer by Rich every year. 😋

Emma was able to take a picture that I had off of Pinterest and create a cake that I loved! I am Fostering to Adopt my tiny granddaughter and having pictures for her to know how loved and celebrated she is was extremely important to me and the cakes were the centerpiece of our celebration! As with any custom artistic projects ~ they cost extra. It was absolutely worth it, plus the cakes were moist and tasted great. I am sure that simpler cakes than fondant would be less expensive and fabulous too! I will be using Emma for all our celebrations with specialty cakes. We even live in the East Valley and she packed them and gave us such great advice on the importance of absolutely keeping the cakes cool that they were perfect when we got home!

Noelle was our head chef. She gave us a wonderful selection and the food was spectacular in taste, quality and presentation. Love her serving dishes and table decor. It made the entire presentation so appealing, contemporary and elegant. We got great reviews from our guests on the food and deserts. Noelle was a pleasure to work with, she was quick to respond to all our questions, needs and requests. She worked exceptionally well with our florist and together they created a spectacular decor for our wedding. We highly recommend Noelle and her team if you are trying to create a high quality, contemporary and chic event.

Where do I begin? I personally love Italian food and I'm part Italian so I know how it should be done! Miele's Bistro is beyond anything any olive garden or competing Italian restaurant can offer. I'm young so I have an insane appetite and honestly, here they are not cheap with their servings. The food is delicious, the portions are just right, and the price is appropriate for the quality and experience. Everyone's incredibly friendly and the owners know what they're doing, I hear they plan on expanding and I honestly hope they do because Miele's is one of the best tasting Italian restaurants I've had since moving to AZ. If you want great tasting food, without breaking the bank (ASU students take note) then this is legit the place for you. Definitely worth checking out, especially if you prefer delivery or pick up!

Working w/Kari was a delight! I called her (on short notice) to cater a lunch birthday party for 20. She took the time to listen to what I wanted and made great suggestions to improve my proposed menu. She arrived early to set-up - an outdoor venue. The presentation- professional. The food - delicious; guests were impressed ... and still talking about it days later. Thanks, Kari, for making this important event so special! Without reservation I can recommend Kari to cater your next event.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

Do you tip a wedding caterer?

Tipping 15 percent to 20 percent on a $3,000 catering bill can feel daunting — especially in light of all the other costs of throwing a wedding — but tipping your wedding caterer is standard practice. Be sure to ask your caterer about their specific policies. Many catering companies include gratuity as a line item on their bill. If tipping is not automatically included in your total, a good approach is to tip all the people involved the day of the event rather than paying one lump sum to the catering company. For each server and bartender, you can tip $20-$50, depending on how long they were onsite and whether they did exceptional work. You can also tip the chef; experts suggest $50. It’s also a good idea to tip the catering manager, the point-of-contact person who keeps the catering service running smoothly the day of your wedding, ensures all the food looks beautiful and is plentiful, and resolves any mishaps. Industry pros recommend tipping the catering manager $100-$200. If gratuity is not included and you’re tipping individuals, set aside $200-$500 in cash to be safe.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

  • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
  • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
  • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
  • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
  • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
  • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
