Moe is awesome! He helped me review for a rigorous Honors Precalculus class and I ended up really understanding the material well. He always makes himself available, even at late hours. I plan on continuing to use him as a review source for my next math class (Calculus AB) because Moe is so broadly knowledgable and really makes sure his students comprehend the material.

My son has never considered math his forte. After just a few hours with Mark he got a 98% on his Pre-Calculus Test. My son says, "He explains the math from a practical perspective making it easier to understand". We couldn't be happier and hope to have Mark continue to tutor our College age son thru Calculus for Engineers and Physics, too. Mark responded promptly, politely and professionally to our request for a tutor thru Thumbtack. He took plenty of time on the phone to get to know my son's needs and course demands. The type of book, class format and so on. Mark arrives on time (always a few minutes early) and is ready to tutor. He has a lot of experience, seems like a good guy and my son is very pleased that we found Mark.

Spanish Lessons

I've taken about two months of introductory Spanish from Abigail, and would definitely recommend her to anyone looking to learn Spanish, both because it is clear that she knows Spanish language and culture from personal experience and also because it is clear that she knows how to teach language. She uses a wide range of teaching resources, including group games, jokes, Spanish songs, and out-of-class worksheets. In addition to immersing students in Spanish, she has taught formal grammar rules which explain the mechanics of Spanish. All of these teaching methods complement each other well. She does a good job of connecting with the people she is teaching, and is very accommodating to people with concerns or needs. During college, there were some classes in which I wished I could go on learning indefinitely; that will definitely be the case for me while taking the Spanish class Abigail is teaching right now.

Our son is in high school geometry and was getting a D. After the very first lesson he started getting all A's on his quizzes and exams. He even got 100% on one of his tests. Their unique approach and customization lessons tailored to my sons own learning level is what has made this very successful. Nothing cookie cutter about their programs. Highly recommended! D. Cohen

Mrs Leggett arrived on time and was pleasant to speak with about our grandson's need for a math tutor. During his lesson she explained math in a way that he understood. We are looking forward to working with Mrs. Leggett.

      About

I have a degree in cello performance, and I am fluent in French. I offer one-on-one instruction in both.

      About

In middle school and high school, I did not connect with algorithmic mathematical sequences. As I went in to an associate's degree, then an undergraduate, and a master's degree, I took math classes as a requirement. When I applied for graduation with my master's in education, I realized I had taken so many math classes that I could list it as my focus. Primarily, I took them as my "fun classes". With my degree in education, I passed state boards and got my first teaching job in middle school math. My classes' scores increased every year that I taught in public school. However, I was missing out on my own children's infancy, so I switched my career path, and I took a more flexible job as a parent educator. In this job, I did home visitations and coached the primary caregiver to children from birth to five. I completed developmental assessments, assisted with resource needs, and advocated for the family when needed. My life process is more than a job. I live what I teach, and I teach what I live. Most recently, I began teaching for the local college a math GED preparation class to adult students. My greatest joy is seeing a student transform his/her math insecurity and ultimately become a learner with an intrinsic need to learn.

      About

Hello there. My name is Krystal. I'm a very intelligent 20-year old currently looking to help anyone. I will help anyone in need with school work from Health, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Reading and Writing, mathematics from pre Algebra to pre Calculus, and Spelling. Any subject, doesn't have to be school work, either. If I don't mention something, then please email me and we can discuss what you're having difficulty with. ~Prices? Oh no~ Base rate? I'm not sure yet. But it'll always be negotiable. I can give you an estimation based upon travel and difficulty of the lesson. But trust me, I never will overprice you. There may be a very slight compensation for my transportation. I will go to you, it's no bother. I almost would like to say I prefer it, but it all depends. ~Why me?~ I believe it's quite beneficial to the student that I'm straight out of college because all the information is fresh in my head. It's just sitting there restlessly moving about. I'm also very animated when it comes to explaining a subject or just naturally talking to, so it tends to get the attention. I'm not full of abundance of experience but, I used to teach all those lessons mentioned above in groups of up to 15 and of course one-on-one. I was the superintendent's personal assistant at my high school. Mind you, I taught lectures and even maintained our schools standard of 90% or above score in every lecture. I am graduating with a 3.6 GPA and attendance of 93%. I am smarter than your average cookie. ~About me~ Don't worry! I'm not uptight. Actually quite the opposite. No need to worry about that either, for I know when it's time to buckle down and hit the books. ~Parents? After school service?~ If you're a parent seeking my type of services and you would like me to teach your grade school child, by all means! I absolutely adore children. No need to fret. I can also be a sitter while tutoring or just one or the other. ~Sadly. Faults~ As you already gathered I'm not a teacher with many many years of experience. I can still guarantee the same result at a cheaper price.

      About

I'm a Phoenix based professional English to Russian (Russian to English) translator, Russian tutor and singer. Music, singing and languages are my main passions. I enjoy sharing my experience with people who have the same interests as me. My singing career started from attending art-aesthetic gymnasium in Russia where I took choir, sol-fa and musical literature classes. After experiencing singing in a choir, I started performing solo with European and American pop songs taking part in different Russian singing competitions. Singing is an art of opening yourself, your emotions, your soul for the music and lyrics of the song you sing. I can help you make your voice stronger, to feel the music, to get rid of the fear of performing and to learn how to energy others with your singing. I have a bachelor's degree in translation, and as a Russian native speaker, I can also give you Russian lessons, helping you to learn more about Russian culture, authentic traditions and people, as well as translate any kind of texts from Russian to English of from English to Russian.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

      • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
      • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
      • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
      • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
