Ron Ferlito is an outstanding voice instructor! He really got me singing within just a matter of a few lessons. I started with absolutely zero prior singing experience or knowledge. I really thought it would be just a waste of time to even try getting voice lessons. I've always thought my singing voice is so incredibly bad, there is no way that an instructor could do anything for me. HOW WRONG I WAS! I was lucky enough to be referred to Ron Ferlito for voice lessons. Ron Ferlito is an amazing voice teacher. He showed me the basics, and he has been showing me how to use my voice musically, just like a musical instrument. Ron Ferlito has a wealth of musical knowledge and experience and he knows how to explain it to a beginner in a way that makes sense and gets results. I highly recommend Ron Ferlito for voice lessons to anyone who is a beginner and curious to know whether they can actually sing. Ron Ferlito will get you singing! Ron Ferlito is also an amazing and gifted piano player and teacher. My wife is taking piano lessons from him and she has gone from zero knowledge of music to playing some simple Christmas songs in just a matter of a few weeks! How do you do it, Ron?! About me: I am a 40-year-old man who has played guitar for 20 years. I have always wanted to learn to sing too, but I never had any success on my own. I told Ron that I want to learn to sing well enough to play/sing at open-mic nights. Before I knew it, Ron had me singing at one of his recitals. What an awesome experience that was! Bottom line: if you want to learn how to sing or play piano, or both, regardless of whether you have some musical background or not, sign up for lessons with Ron Ferlito. He is very reasonably priced. I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. Ron Ferlito is also a very friendly guy who is easy to get along with. You never feel embarrassed when you make a mistake around Ron. His attitude is always supportive and encouraging. I just can't say enough good about him because I'm so grateful to Ron Ferlito for helping me to find my true singing voice.

I've had many music teachers in my life. The way Jeff explains things and encourages his students is unmatched. He's an amazing artist himself and I have grown Leaps and Bounds from my experience with him.

The violin guitar duo was a great idea for our outdoor wedding ceremony! Lali reached out to me with the idea when I had requested a project for a harp player. Although I am a bit bummed that I couldn't listen to their whole routine as I was getting ready indoors doing and last min preps before the ceremony. I was able to hear the song that the bridal party walked down the aisle to and the song I chose for me. All the guests complemented on how lovely the music was and that it was loud enough to hear. Lali was very responsive through email and was great about creating a timeline. They also have a wonderful song list to choose from. The only con would be that they required shade, which is understandable, but there was limited shade where we were (kind of far and would of looked awkward) and we had to rent an umbrella for them. I would suggest that Lali invests in an umbrella for clients. Wedding vendors are already playing the nickel and dime game with the bride and groom and it would be nice to have to worry about one less thing. Thank you for your amazing performance Lali!

My wife, Crystal, and I hired Colleen and Chris Collins (aka Eirezona Duo) to perform at our wedding ceremony and reception June, 2017 in Sedona, AZ. They are an extremely talented husband and wife team, with a beautifully rich innate musicality ... we were nothing short of absolutely impressed! Colleen and Chris are both classically trained guitarists, and as such also play a wide range of instruments. Beyond her amazingly strong and beautiful vocals, Colleen also is an accomplished flutist. They transitioned seamlessly from playing light classical, and contemporary love songs during the ceremony portion of the evening, to rock, folk and country classics during our reception. Despite the busyness of the evening, from getting ready for the ceremony, to formal family photos and toasts, a big part of both Crystal and I just wanted to kick-back during cocktail hour to listen to their music and dance the night away! We received numerous compliments throughout the night for their amazing duet sound. There is no doubt that our guests were well-entertained with their performance. The music could not have been better! In addition to their performance the day-of our wedding, Colleen and Chris went above-and-beyond and invested time in learning our "first dance" song, "Feels Like Home", which was absolutely beautiful! The Collins are a rare blend of talent, flexibility, integrity and professional entertainment. They hold a strong desire to please and are also very well priced. You won't find a more likable pair of musicians! We give Colleen and Chris Collins our highest praises and would recommend them in a heartbeat! Thank you so, so much - Colleen and Chris! You all are absolutely wonderful and we look forward to enjoying more of your live performances in the future! Brian & Crystal Miller

Will is a gifted and versatile pianist who excels in both classical and jazz music. I heard him perform on numerous occasions at the University of Maine, and was always very impressed with his artistry. Will is also an accomplished accompanist. For two and a half years, he served as the Assistant Accompanist for the University Singers at my request (I am the faculty accompanist for this ensemble). In this capacity, he played for sectional rehearsals, and filled in for me when I was traveling and unable to attend rehearsals. He did an excellent job in this role. Before his recent move to Arizona, Will was the Music DIrector at the Old Town United Methodist Church, where he directed and accompanied a Youth Choir and Adult Choir and played the piano for worship services. It is unusual to find an undergraduate student who has the necessary skills to handle these responsibilities. However, I know many individuals who attend this church, and the feedback that I received from them was unanimously positive and complimentary. In addition to his skills at the keyboard, Will is also an excellent singer who provided leadership in his section while he was a member of the University Singers. He was also a valued member of the Maine Steiners, a male a capella group, and created many impressive arrangements for this group. He represented the University of Maine admirably in his many performances throughout the state with this group. Will has turned pages for me at faculty recitals on many occasions. I have asked him to do this because of his great skill in reading music, and because he is mature individual that I can trust to be on time and to focus on the task at hand while on stage. In addition to his admirable skills as a musician, I have found Will to be a reliable and dependable individual who willingly takes on any task that he is asked to do. He will be an asset to any organization or institution with which he is associated. Sincerely, Laura Artesani, D.M.A. Associate Professor, Division of Music School of Performing Arts University of Maine Orono, ME 04469

Alex is one of the most accomplished guitarists I have had the pleasure of watching. I saw him playing at Omni Montelucia one Saturday night and immediately asked him to play for my anniversary party. Alex exceeded my expectations, to say the least, and although his specialty is Flamenco, he plays a ton of modern and classic top 40 with a Spanish twist, which I love. I would definitely hire him again!

Rich did an excellent job playing at our wedding. Ours was a small outdoor ceremony with only a few guests, and Rich's guitar playing created a nice, romantic mood before the ceremony began. He also worked with the ceremony schedule to provide music during various parts in the middle of the ceremony, and he even played a "first dance" song at the end for my wife and I to dance to. If you're looking for a great classical guitar sound at your wedding or other event, choose Rich Merriman!

I hired John and Andrew to play acoustic guitar at my wedding ceremony. The ceremony was at an outdoor garden and the acoustic guitars fit perfectly with the atmosphere. They supplied their own equipment and the volume was perfect. They are both extremely talented musicians and are able to learn whatever song selections you request. They sent me a short video clip of one of my song requests which was very helpful so I could confirm it was the sound I was looking for. They also attended our rehearsal which was very helpful and appreciated. Very nice and professional.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

        • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
        • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
        • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
