David was an absolute joy to work with, providing excellent service and going above and beyond to capture my son's proposal on video. This event took place in Sedona and was quite complex since it needed to be done without his fiancé being aware of it. David drive up from Phoenix and was very detail oriented making the experience better than we expected! So happy we entrusted David to capture these once in a lifetime memories!!

My husband and I really loved the videos Chris made for us! Both the highlight film and full length had their own unique qualities. We also appreciate that Chris gave us the option to choose the song we wanted for the highlight film. Not all videographers do that. What I, Miranda, personally loved about Chris is how easy it was to talk to him, and how comfortable I felt with him around. I never felt uncomfortable or awkward, even during the getting ready shots, and that was the first time I had met him in person. He was a perfect gentlemen and I’m grateful he was there. Here’s a few detailed shots that I screenshot straight from the videos he created of our day! Do know that he communicates as often as you reach out. Sometimes I worried that we hadn’t been in touch more before the wedding, but I recognized that it was because there wasn’t anything we were waiting for or that was pending. We were that well prepared. Besides, he always responded promptly when I did reach out, so communication isn’t an issue. We highly recommend Chris!

Carly literally agreed to video our wedding 2 days before the date as I suddenly panicked and realized I didn't want to go without a video. Even though it was such short notice, she showed up with a 2nd videographer in tow and didn't miss a beat! She asked what little details I wanted captured and what type of video I wanted which meant a lot to me as I didn't want a big dramatic, hollywood type video. I hardly had time to talk to her throughout the day, and when I apologzied at the end of the night for not being more attentive, and she said that that's what we were supposed to be doing, having fun! This made me so happy because I knew that she was getting real moments captured, not just poses and forced shots. I am so grateful that Carly was able to make it up to Flagstaff on such short notice, I know I would've truly regretted not hiring her and her team!

We had an exceptional experience with Michael from Concept Studios. Michael went above and beyond in his service and was very responsive. This is the first time we used a photo booth and he kept us informed on what to except. During the party he and his son were present to cover the event, they warmly greeted all guests and encouraged everyone to take pics, everyone enjoyed photo booth a lot. Michael brought cool props with him and came up with a great logo for the pics based on our party theme. Overall I very pleased with Michael and his team and will happily endorse his services in my friend circle. All the best Michael, can't wait to hire you for our next event!

I contacted Kurt about providing a host for our karaoke party, and he unfortunately didn't have any available for the date I was looking. He went WAY ABOVE and beyond by referring me multiple providers who could help make our event perfect. He didn't make a dime off of me, yet still treated me like his best customer. Based on his level of service for someone who wasn't able to use his company, I'd recommend him to anyone!

James was an awesome photographer to work with! He was easily accessible and easy to communicate with. We connected on Thumbtack, through email, Instagram (he keeps in touch as a follower!), and eventually cell phone. He is very willing to work with his clients; He has very reasonable prices for many hours of coverage, and will drive to a destination location shoot because he loves what he does. He was very punctual with communication and planning, and arrived early to our event. He is based in the Mesa, AZ area but drove to northeast Phoenix for us, and central Phoenix for a shoot after us. His eye for photos is very unique and candid. I love candid! He captured real emotion and motion while still photographing me and the other members in my party from flattering angles. My FAVORITE part was his unique perspective, which made the photos appear to the viewer as if they were in the room with us (which was wonderful for our elopement ceremony since in fact our families were not present). He was very fun to work with; he was very energetic and outgoing, easily fit right in with our group and our feeling comfortable with him, and funny. He came prepared with jokes to help get some real laughs in our photos. I feel our quirks came out very natural with him. I love his framing in some shots, where he blurred foliage from the foreground. I also love the tones of the edits, very vivid and sharp. He was also EXTREMELY quick at returning the gallery of edited photos to me. That is so rare and I appreciated it immensely! I would definitely recommend James as a photographer for events, like weddings, elopements, and couples photos. His Instagram (jameslee101) also features some beautiful portraits, and macro-shots.

I recently hired Bullseye Video to photograph my son's bar mitzvah. Dave was a pleasure to work with throughout the process. He took the time to preview the location and meet with us to understand what aspects of the event we wanted to capture. Several guests commented on how personable Dave was and they requested his information for their own events! Dave did a beautiful job of capturing a very special evening. I would highly recommend Bullseye Video for both event and portrait photography!

We had a great experience working with AZ LG Films. For this shoot we worked with Lemar and were very happy with entire process. The challenge for us was that we could not be on location and had to trust the videographer to get what we needed in an area we didn't know a lot about. Lemar was very engaged and responsive leading up to and after the shoot, which put us at ease. He gathered all the shots me needed and additional ones as well. Also, if you are looking for aerial footage, he does a fantastic job and we were very happy with what he filmed for us. We look forward to reaching out to him with more projects and hope he'll be available to work with us again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
