David was an absolute joy to work with, providing excellent service and going above and beyond to capture my son's proposal on video. This event took place in Sedona and was quite complex since it needed to be done without his fiancé being aware of it. David drive up from Phoenix and was very detail oriented making the experience better than we expected! So happy we entrusted David to capture these once in a lifetime memories!!

My husband and I really loved the videos Chris made for us! Both the highlight film and full length had their own unique qualities. We also appreciate that Chris gave us the option to choose the song we wanted for the highlight film. Not all videographers do that. What I, Miranda, personally loved about Chris is how easy it was to talk to him, and how comfortable I felt with him around. I never felt uncomfortable or awkward, even during the getting ready shots, and that was the first time I had met him in person. He was a perfect gentlemen and I’m grateful he was there. Here’s a few detailed shots that I screenshot straight from the videos he created of our day! Do know that he communicates as often as you reach out. Sometimes I worried that we hadn’t been in touch more before the wedding, but I recognized that it was because there wasn’t anything we were waiting for or that was pending. We were that well prepared. Besides, he always responded promptly when I did reach out, so communication isn’t an issue. We highly recommend Chris!

Arizona Wedding Video, helmed by the tireless Roger Resler, does outstanding work. I hired the company to record a live theatre performance, which is a complicated event to capture properly, and Roger pulled it off extremely well. Three cameras and two audio recorders covered the show at two performances, generating the huge amount of raw data needed to assemble an excellent record of the show. The communications with Roger leading up to the show were plentiful and thorough. Every technical question was answered promptly and thoroughly. It was very impressive how comprehensive and patient Roger was during that preparatory stage, leaving me totally confident that every detail had been nailed down ahead of time. The fee for the meticulous execution of the complex job was surprisingly affordable. I urge theatre groups in the Tucson area to hire Roger's company if they want video archives of their productions they can be proud of. And for covering weddings, one only has to take a look at Roger's spectacular demo videos to see that couples will have a video record of their nuptials to be proud of. Arizona Wedding Video is Tucson's finest video company. Highly recommended! Randy Bowser - author of KARLOFF - the play http://www.karlofftheplay.com/

Mark saved the day! My family and I put on a Daddy Daughter Dance event to celebrate my dad, who is suffering from stage IV appendix cancer and to raise money for appendix cancer research. We had everything together but could not find a videographer to film our special day! Finally, we found Mark and he immediately dropped everything he was doing and helped us out right away. He worked with our budget and timeframe of the event. He was very reliable and showed up early and left late to get every ounce of footage he could. He worked diligently to get all the edits done quickly and had tons of copies made for us. He even included pictures from the event in the video! He is very easy to get in contact with and does everything he can to make sure he delivers the video that you want. Thank you so much for your fantastic contribution to our special day!

My first exposure to working with Christian was when I asked him to shoot a professional introductory video for my private chiropractic practice. That exposure lead to requests for his services for multiple styles of videography. His portfolio speaks for itself and has been the driving force behind the demand for his services as a storyteller. Christian possesses a unique skill to be able to capture and tell the story of an individual, event or business. His vision for the end product translates to the screen in a way that reflects talent and excellence. As Christian continues to grow in popularity, it is because of his unfailing commitment to his art and its expression. It is a rare to find such consistent talent in someone so young, but it is what it is. I recommend him without reservation.

Lone Mountain Studios was amazing! They were helpful in guiding us through the wedding videography process since we had no idea what we wanted. They arrived early, took some great shots of everyone getting ready and incorporated our vows and reception speeches into the video. Their work is slightly untraditional, you won’t find the standard wedding video that captures just the bride and groom from start to finish. They captured the emotion of the day... I didn’t cry my entire wedding but the finished video had me in tears. It was everything we had hoped for and more. We highly recommend them for any wedding or special event you want captured!

We had a great experience working with AZ LG Films. For this shoot we worked with Lemar and were very happy with entire process. The challenge for us was that we could not be on location and had to trust the videographer to get what we needed in an area we didn't know a lot about. Lemar was very engaged and responsive leading up to and after the shoot, which put us at ease. He gathered all the shots me needed and additional ones as well. Also, if you are looking for aerial footage, he does a fantastic job and we were very happy with what he filmed for us. We look forward to reaching out to him with more projects and hope he'll be available to work with us again.

I had the privilege to work with Jeffrey filming a wedding this past month. What sets Jeffrey apart from other videographers I've worked with is his love for film technique, and his overall client-focused care. To him it's all about producing a style that is both professional, and unique to him. When you see it, you know it's his work. As a fellow professional, he made me want to write this review so people know how awesome this guy is. I'm telling you, Jeffrey comes highly recommended by me, and he will prove it to you the first time he meets you.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

      • Package 1: $1,400
        • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
        • Two cameras with audio equipment.
        • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
        • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
      • Package 2: $1,800
        • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
