We initially discussed air duct and return cleaning for my mother's home to get it ready to be rented out. Once we saw the work ethic of Casey and Raul though, we discussed air register cleaning, dryer vent cleaning and air coil cleaning. These guys are very thorough and the job took them the better part of a full day. My parents were heavy smokers, so the job required more than average focus. 100% recommend them and will not hesitate to call on them for this type of service in the future.

Chris arrived at the scheduled time and even gave a call ahead of time that he was on his way. He was very friendly and courteous. After describing that I needed the common ground wires connected to both my air handlers he quickly got to work and accomplished the task. He went above and beyond my request by installing the new thermostat with out me asking. He was through to make sure that it was hooked up correctly and that both heating and air conditioning was still working properly. He also offered to come back if anything wasn't working as it should. I would highly recommend Grand Air for HVAC work. Thanks Chris for a job well done.

I've used Ken for my heating and air conditioning needs for some 6 years, and could not be more pleased. He is on time, honest, repairs only what is needed, thoroughly cleans up, and the price is always very fair. I highly recommend Ken for your heating and a/c needs. Wish other service providers were this good.

American Air Vent is the only company I will recommend. I knew I needed my vents cleaned when I bought the house, but being new in town, it was hard to find a company I could trust. Thank goodness I got on Thumbtack and found Patrick with American Air Vent. NO hidden fees whatsoever. The price he quoted me was the exact amount I paid. He took his time answering all my questions and explained exactly what he was doing as he did it. With a newborn and two fur babies.....it's nice to know they are sleeping in a cleaner and more "breathable" house. Thank you so much Patrick for restoring our faith in man kind and letting us know there are still some people in business with honesty and integrity. If you want someone who will be in and out in 30 min, don't call this guy. If you want someone that will get all your units, every vent, every intake, and even your dryer then look no further. I am happy to recommend him and am having my kids house done as well. You will not be disappointed!

Ken Clement came out shortly after I requested the service. He was thorough, and gave us detailed information about the problem. His fee was not only fair but about 50% less than what anyone else quoted us. We have and will recommend Clement Air and Heating to friends and family.

We were very pleased with the work we had Pacific Stone Flooring complete. We had Ivan and his crew raise our ceiling from an 8ft ceiling to a vaulted ceiling and it turned out great. They also did the drywall and texturing of the entire ceiling of the house. They wired and did the recessed lighting in the house, moved some of the air ducts as well. In addition to that we had him do the flooring in the house too!! The floor turned out great too! I would recommend Pacific Stone to anyone that needs some work done on their house.

I don’t know where to begin with Dave, he is so amazing. I hired him because we’ve worked with him before and we loved him so much last time. Our AC unit went out and was blowing hot air into the house, and the temp inside kept rising. He was here within an hour of me calling. I did some research and figured our capacitor was out...and the pros on here were quoting me around $200-300. I remembered that I had saved Dave’s card and called him instead. When he arrived, he asked where my husband was this time and I let him know that my husband was currently deployed. He came over, replaced the capacitor, did a thorough check afterwards..and since he knew my husband wasn’t here, walked around the perimeter checking and fixing things just to help me out. On his way out of the house, I asked him “ok, what do we owe you? And can you send me an invoice online like last time?” He said you owe me nothing. I thought I had heard wrong so I asked again and he said ma’am with everything your husband is dealing with while being deployed and serving our country, I am the one who owes him. I started tearing up and told him that I’d accept a discount but didn’t feel right just giving him nothing or could I at least buy him some lunch. And he said well with the money you are trying to give me, I’d rather you use it to take those 2 little ones (pointing to my kids) out to dinner tonight. I’m not in this business to get over in people, I just want to help. Please tell your husband thank you for his service. And he walked out. I was so grateful because Dave went above and beyond without once mentioning he was planning to not charge me. Also, he didn’t know this, but we had just had to deal with repairing my husband’s Audi which cost us a pretty penny. You just don’t fine genuinely good people like this anymore...most repairman are trying to charge as much as they can. Thank you so much Dave, this review doesn’t even begin to cover how grateful I am to you.

Arrived ontime. Very affordable. Throughly checked furnace for problems. We called him for a second opinion. Air tech heating and cooling said that we basically needed a new furnace($2500). Sam reviewed the notes from Air Tech prior to coming out. He said that the furnace could be fixed and the fix was very affordable, saved us over $2 thousand. We are very happy.

Hands down THE best AC/Heating guy in the area! Oscar was very knowledgeable and professional. He answered the phone at 8:30pm and was at our house in less than 10 minutes. He had the parts our AC unit needed, and it was back up and running within 35 minutes. Couldn't have been more of a pleasure to work with. Will use again for any repairs that come about. I like the thoroughness of their efforts as well as the approach in which they take when it comes to finding the reason your air quality is not not operating at best potential. Speaking from experience, in the past I have delt with air-personnel in my home who were in a hurry to get in and out. I get it, AZ is hot! However, my bill continues to rise with the escape of air I pay for! I work hard for my money and do not like paying for a bill that continues to rise because of a leak in the flow. With your company, I feel my concerns were heard, hence delt with in a manner that would identify the actual problem verses feeding me information that has nothing to do with the problem at hand when it comes to my A.C. Barak was the auditor who serviced my home on 08/09/18 and I am very happy with his deliverance with ON POINT CUSTOMER SERRVICE!!! I heard about your company via Midday viewer special and I am thankful for tuning in when I did. I am thankful for your auditor and his service in my home. Thank you so much for assisting in making the air quality in my home better. I appreciate you! NicoleRodriguez

I made my request to Dean after three other HVAC guys fizzled. He was at my house within two hours. He came, accessed the situation, hurried to the supply company. The air was up and running within five hours of my request to Thumbtack. The work was flawless, the price was right and Dean was extremely courteous. Do not bother to look any further. Call Dean and save yourself time, money and aggravation. I’ve had great success with Thumbtack. .

I have nothing but great things to say about my experience with Desert Hills Heating & cooling. An appointment was available less than 24 hours after I made contact with their Thumbtack rep, and their price was more competitive than 90% of the other bids I received. Paul showed up on time and instantly knew how to fix my issue. He was very friendly, professional, and even went above and beyond to give me some recommendations on how to keep my heating/cooling bills lower. He even used his Nest Pro credentials to extend my manufacturer’s warranty to 5 years! I’ve used other HVAC companies in the past, but for future issues I know exactly who to contact.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
