I have hired many carpet cleaning companies before to do the job , but what All Steam gave was exceptional service. Very detailed and thorough . I never write reviews unless a company has left a lasting good impression with their job. And I give it to this company. Thank you very much.

Alex was the only company that reached out personally, committing to and completing a large repair job within 24 hours. The entire team worked quickly to repair a large leak that other landscaping companies passed on. They gave me a few options to consider and left their work area clean. Enjoyed working with them and plan to do so again.

I'm about the most picky/snobby people out there when it comes to hiring handymen; I own that. I know what I expect and I won't take anything less. Daryll (one R and two L's, btw as I see it's misspelled on reviews), is nothing short of amazing. He's quick in response, dependable to show to his appointment time but more than anything else, he's a master at drywall repair. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Personally, I think he's underpricing himself because it's hard to find high quality repair professionals....and Daryll is truly the best out there.

I have a 2000 SQ house that was in a desperate need of paint. Nick was professional and got the job done and got it done right. I have seen a lot of paint jobs on houses that the color is weird or the way the painting was done but this was a great job. He worked well with the other contractors that were working on my house and they said that they liked working with him also. For any other painting job that I have I will ask Nick to do the work and I will be recommending him to anyone that needs painting work done.

We hired Trent to haul away some junk recently. We chose Trent because of his professional communication and his competitive quote to do the work. Upon arrival (early), Trent and Rocky were very professional right away. They were able to quickly take care of the job at hand, were very friendly with my kids, and left the yard area in great condition. I will definitely use Trent again in the future for any restoration projects or junk removal. This was a really great customer experience.

Our manager scheduled other plumbing company come between 5 to 7, but after 7:30 he didn’t showed up. So I made a arrangements with Ground Zero plumbing. And I end up to paid $125 more for after 7:00 service call .They showed up quickly and did a very good job to fixed the leaking on the bathtub right away. I give them 4 stars because I think the price is too high.

I never write reviews, but I made an exception because I am very happy with the end result! Patrick mounted a tv on a brick fireplace and did an amazing job. He was very kind and knowledgeable from the first time we had contact. He was very precise and went over every detail and communicated with us about every step. He was very clean with his installation process and took the time to cover surrounding areas with plastic to avoid a mess of brick dust as he drilled. All of this happened even with a curious two year old in the home! I definitely recommend hiring him. I have saved his number for any future projects in my home. He's a keeper!

For years we have struggled with poor air flow in the front of our home ... The back would be really cold and the front super hot... then Shawn saved the day! I cannot rave enough about his expertise. He took pictures so we did not have to climb in the hot attic and explained each part of the process. He sealed all the vents inside the house as well as the attic and put in new insulation. Once that was complete, it was INSTANT that we felt a difference in our entire home! His attention to detail and professionalism exceeded our expectations and we would happily recommend him to anyone looking for superior work with outstanding results!

These guys tackled a tough job and left the house exceptionally clean. We bought a home intending to remodel. We wanted to remove two columns and discovered the house was not build to the plans. We had an engineer provide a fix with details and load calcs, but that required removing a glulam and replacing with a larger one -- and my family has already moved in. I put up plastic everywhere, but it turns out I probably didn't need it. As one cut drywall, another held a vacuum to catch all the dust. Every time they created sawdust with the planer or a saw, and every time insulation fell through the ceiling crack, they cleaned it up right away, so it never got airborne and spread thorough the house. They installed it exactly to specifications and even addressed a couple unrelated issues without being asked. We expected it to take 6 hours, they were done in 4. I think the bid was high, but they were ready to go and I needed it done right away. After seeing the care they took, I think it was worth the price. Btw, I messed up ordering the beam, so Alfredo had to arrange to have a team come at a later date without him. They came in the afternoon when they had finished their day-jobs. Alfredo arrived as they finished to walk through and get paid.

We've done a lot of work on our fixer upper since our purchase in 2009, and have worked with several contractors over the years. The folks at Contact Restoration are the absolute best. They were easy to work with, they explained everything to us during the process, and they kept their word on everything they promised. They responded to us, knowing they were not merely working on a house, but that they were working on our home.

I recently hired Hughes Construction to handle a multi faceted repair project for a home that is up for rental. Jeffrey Hughes went over every room with me, discussing what repairs were needed and then gave me his budget for the labor. He went with me to choose the necessary materials. The project was completed on time and to my satisfaction ! I would recommend Hughes Construction to anyone requiring good work at a fair price!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.
