Introduction: I am a classically trained, professional pianist and instructor who studied for 20 years, under the tutelage of master teacher, Elaine K. Hunter. (Ms. Hunter, graduated suma cum laude from The Denver University Longmont Conservatory, and received her Masters Degree from Az State University . She was also my mother!) With over 35 years of teaching and performance experience including the genres of Classical, Country Western, Jazz, Sacred, Pop, Rock, Film Score, Wedding Music, I am equipped to provide the highest level of instruction, for those just beginning, their musical studies, through the advanced levels! I am fully committed to inciting and fostering in ALL my students, their individual passion and aptitude for music! Many different modes of instruction are utilized each lesson to facilitate the mastery of each skill and piece! Each song the student is learning to play, is taught in the specific way which is most beneficial to the student's age, experience, mastery level, previous musical study, and learning style. There are no sacred cows in how to present a new song to the student! And as the student progresses, he/she should be learning how to teach the material to himself/herself! Being a music instructor is thrilling as I watch my students create beautiful music at the piano, with the tools I have imparted to them! Learning to make your own music is so much more than a fun pastime! Making, creating, listening to Music, (with true understanding,) yields life altering benefits to our mind, soul, body, immune system, and spirit!! In the last 25 years, scientific studies have revealed these profound gains are not just for the person who has studied music since a young child! Many adults and elderly folks who create, listen to, dance to, and thoroughly enjoy true music, may display greater cognitive/memory function, increased balance and coordination, lower cortisol (stress) levels, improved attitude than their peers who do not regularly engage in the Arts! My joy and passion: to equip each of my students with the tools he/she needs to continue to cultivate and enjoy the monumental gains and lifelong benefits derived from making your own music! This year, 2020, marks my 40th year of teaching and imparting the joy that music continues to bring ME!

My son has been getting piano lessons from Ms. Dashney for nearly two years (started when he was 6), and voice lessons for over 6 months. She is a wonderful Piano teacher and voice coach. He has made enormous strides in playing the piano under her teaching and guidance. I highly recommend Ms. Dashney for any level or age. My 6 year old daughter is about to start Piano with Ms. Dashney, we feel very lucky to have her as our families Piano/voice teacher.

We love Ms. Deborah! We have been taking lessons for 3 months now and my daughter truly looks forward to her special time with Ms. Deborah each week. We love her sensitivity to students' musical interests. In addition, she models joy and passion for music which is contagious to not only her student but the entire family. She is really helping my daughter to take ownership of all of the piano skills she has and to develop her own style. We look forward to the special extras she has thought to include with our piano lessons such as drum playing, musical games, etc. Even siblings who are not currently taking piano are enthralled with Ms. Deborah's singing, teaching and fun lesson activities that occur each week in our home. She pours her heart and soul into making lessons engaging, challenging and fun. Thank you Ms. Deborah for all that you do!

Mrs. Dashney is a truly gifted piano teacher and musician. She has been able to fix technical problems, have my children play more musically and be excited for their lessons. I love that she is also teaching them to read lead sheets. In just a few weeks of lessons she has made a significant impact on their piano playing. As a music teacher myself, I am very impressed and pleased to have Mrs. Dashney teach our three older children. I look forward to eventually having our younger two take lessons as well. Mrs. Dashney is a gem, and I feel blessed to have found her.

Miss Deborah is the best!! She is always so willing to go above and beyond, and even met with me outside of my lesson to help me pick out a quality piano. She is so passionate and patient, and you can tell she really love what she does. I am 22 years old trying to learn for the first time in my life, and she really encourages me. It is never too late to start something you have always wanted to try, and miss Deborah makes it so easy :)

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Regular private piano lessons are $25.00 for a 30” lesson. However, many of my students, enjoy lessons 45” , 60”, or 75” in length. For younger students, 15" and 20" sessions are appropriate and a great way to whet their musical appetite, & learn foundational musical principles! Joint Musical Sessions with siblings are fun, economical and convenient! (I.e., a 20" session for two young siblings, ages 4 and 5 yrs, would be the same amount, whether there are 2 children, or just 1! I OFFER a 20% discount for the 3rd, or any additional family member, (after the 1st two students,) who enrolls for lessons!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My 1st assessment evaluates: a)the student's previous musical study and exposure b)the student's learning style, and preferred modes of instruction c)does the piano fit the student, & vice versa? Does the student know how to sit appropriately at the Piano, and the critical importance of this foundational element? d)Is the practice environment one in which the student will progress as quickly as he/she is able? Does the room have appropriate lighting, is the bench the correct height and distance from the keys? d)How much time can the student practice, and is the student willing to be taught HOW to practice? MORE practice is not always the mandate, but LEARNING HOW to practice is critical!! e)What KIND of music does the student desire to learn to play? What physical and mental skills are necessary to get him/her to achieve their musical goals?
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to receiving 10 yrs of pedagogy instruction from my mother, I am pursuing advanced studies right now, with a top-notch piano instructor here in the city where I live. I am also attending several seminars continually under the tutelage of the top Feldenkrais instructors in the United states! I have also registered to play in several city-wide performances for the Fall of 2015, and Spring of 2016.
