I recently worked with Jim for the first time and I must say I think he is fantastic! He is thorough, timely and offers great feedback. I have already decided to work with him on my next project. I highly recommend him!

    About this pro

I've been writing and editing for more than 40 years. I specialize in helping authors polish their work to make it more professional so that it stands out from the submissions publishers see every day. Now that I'm retired, I can devote much more time to my clients, and this allows me to go into greater detail on the edits. I don't accept new work until the present job is done.

      Q & A

      • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Some editors charge by the page, which can result in some inequities. I charge by the word instead. At the moment, my fee is $.006 per word. As an example, a 50,000 word manuscript would cost $300. I also offer discounts for repeat clients.
      • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After choosing me as editor, the author submits a manuscript to me either as an attachment through Thumbtack or directly to my email. I print the manuscript and make the edits manually. I then return the completed edits with a full report, including recommendations for publishing. I'm also available afterward for follow-up and advice (no charge). I maintain contact with the author throughout the process.
      • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was originally an English major in college before switching to Business Management. As a bank vice president, I headed a marketing and business development department. I also served as editor of the internal publications of two large banks. Twenty years as editor of newsletters for a community service group brought numerous awards.
