"From the beginning, Miguel was professional and great with his communication. He answered all my questions. Not only did he meet my expectations, he exceeded them. I got a 90-minute introductory massage. Not only did he address all my problem areas, but he also did a fantastic job with combining deep tissue and a general soothing massage. I left totally relaxed but knowing that I was going to come back for more. I already made my next appointment. I would recommend him."

"Every massage I have had from Jeannette has been amazing and she really listens to what is needed each time. For example if I have strained a muscle or just need to de-stress, she knows what will help the situation and I come away feeling relaxed and renewed. I highly recommend Jeannette Heath’s massage therapy expertise and skill."

"Michele Rosen is a high performing massage therapist with healing hands. My monthly appointments are scheduled in advance, she confirms each massage a day ahead and arrives on time. Because my career is physically demanding, I needed a massage therapist that was strong, smart and experienced--Michele Rosen's Relaxation4All is ALL THAT! Can't live without the pain freedom her service gives to me. Beyond that---her service is affordable!!!"

"Tim is the best massage therapist that I've ever visited. I've struggled with a shoulder problem for years, and over a couple month, his work brought great relief, not only to my shoulder, but my lower back/hips as well. I wish he would move to Spokane, so I could visit him again."

"Do to a fall, a rollover accident, and the repititiveness of my job, my upper back and shoulder area has been affected severely, I decided my best option was to find a massage therapist, instead of the usual surgery or a pill. I have been seeing Wally every 2 weeks for a 90 minute massage for alittle over 2 months, and let me tell you he has been a life saver because I was in such bad shape, but with his technique (deep tissue and its not wimpy by any means), professionalism, and knowledge will keep me going to him "

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
