We had several jobs around the house that needed addressed before putting our house on the market. The House Doctor handled all of them, including: RV gate installation Island mount hood vent in kitchen Electrical work Drywall repair Kitchen cabinet installation Tile installation I am very pleased with the quality and value of the work done, and glad I found one person to handle all of it rather than subcontract out to several different people. Very trustworthy and helpful. Went above and beyond when an issue came up (ie drove across town to pick up an oven I purchased on craigslist). Thank you John!

Kyle responded quickly to my request for a quote to remove layers of old contact paper in our kitchen and bathrooms and paint the shelves and drawers it was removed from with a washable paint. He is exceptionally personable and conscientious and his pricing and quality of work are excellent. Even when what had originally appeared to be 2 layers of contact paper in one particular cabinet turned out to be FIVE layers of contact paper, Kyle quickly embraced the extra work and its added level of difficulty with the same all-around positive and cheerful attitude and had that cabinet, too, done in no time. He worked quickly and did a great job. We definitely plan to have Kyle back to work on more projects for us highly recommend him for your projects as well.

Adrian painted my bathroom. He also painted the cabinet in there. He did a great job. I asked him to come back and change the color of the trim, he came and did it with no problems. He was always on time and worked with my schedule. Great guy! I already asked him about painting my master bedroom. He said just let him know and we will get that done.

They painted our kitchen and bathroom cabinets. The cabinets went from ugly yellow oak to white in the kitchen to gray in the bathrooms. The price we were quoted was very fair for the amount of cabinets needing work and the quote included all labor and materials. I would definitely hire them again

Josh was one of the best contractors I have hired to date to work in my home. I hired Josh to complete a built in shoe and coat storage area in my house that I had started a few years ago. I also had him replace and paint base boards, replace and paint crown moulding, install and paint new doors, and complete some finish work on some cabinets I had installed. He was professional and stayed on task throughout the project. He stopped and asked when he had a question instead of just moving on and doing things the way he wanted to do them. He made sure everything was going to be to our satisfaction before he did it. His work turned out beautiful. Hire Josh for your next finish carpentry project. You will not be disappointed.

Rob was wonderful. He did expert, professional work on my wood and glass cabinet doors at a reasonable price. He kept me informed every step of the way. His demeanor was friendly but professional. He's a true craftsman, and I'll hire him again without hesitation whenever I need cabinetry or furniture. I recommend Rob Mahalick highly.

Super responsive and thorough. Had a small water issue and they jumped right on it within hours. Tech was very polite and knowledgeable. Left drying equipment in house overnight and picked up the next day. If the tech was representative of the company's overall performance, it's a very good company.

We Top It did an excellent job helping us retrofit our kitchen cabinets for a new micro-oven combo that had a different cut out size than we needed. The new oven fit perfectly and the cabinet changes were seamless and look great! We hope to use them again!

BRAD WAS AWESOME! I have been trying to get someone to come out and make some adjustments to the cabinet panel that covers the front of my dishwasher. NO one would come out for such a small job. When I thought all hope was lost, along comes Brad. He spoke with me in detail over the phone, I sent pictures and explained that I literally could find NO ONE to come out to my house. He happily explained that he was finishing up a kitchen project and would be happy to help me out. He brought out all the correct tools and completed the job quickly on site. I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you, Brad. In fact, I have already discussed him refinishing a hope chest of mine. I look forward to working with him again.

I hired a master carpenter to hang and install a very custom offset pivot door, Micah filled that need for me. Micah is very competent is what he does, he's very willing to take feedback and work with the client on a variety of issues without having any type of negative attitude. He hung and installed the door to my liking, a few last minute hiccups happened and Micah turned his truck around immediately to address my concerns, when he finally left, I received the service that I paid for. I definitely recommend him for whatever project his skills can fill due to his professionalism, craftsmanship and steady mature demeanor. This project could not have turned out better, I have a 300lb door that I can open with the touch of a pinky and it's beautiful.

I can't say enough good things about Ikea Specialist. Kiko arrived as promised and did an outstanding job. The work is very professional and the finished product is perfect. Our plumbing didn't match up to our initial design as we had the house replumbed, and Kiko was able to move the cabinets to perfectly fit. I highly recommend him. He worked straight through until the job was finished. One of my best experiences ever hiring a contractor. He even did ikea cabinets in our bathroom which wasn't part of my initial request. Neil

Mat took care of some remodeling that we did when we bought our house. His crew moved a wall, added crown molding to our cabinets and moved one cabinet to make them look custom, raised a ceiling and rerouted air vents, and painted our whole house, all cabinets, and our fireplace. Everything was perfect! Things were completed in a timely manner and the quality of work was great. It was so nice to only have one point of contact for all of our remodeling and not have to juggle phone numbers or when work was getting done. Mat was also great about communicating with us when things would be done, and if there were any delays and why. Overall a great experience, I would definitely use him again and recommend him to anyone looking to get remodeling done!

The skill and attention to detail that Charley took in the construction of a 2.5 car garage attached to our newly built home is very impressive. He takes pride in a job well done---from concrete to siding, to roofing. Afterwards, we wish he had been available to take part in a greater portion of our home build. He left the area spotless, unlike the other contractors who left nails, staples, trash, and boards strewn all over, It may be their work space today, but later, our grandchildren's safety was a concern. In addition, to create a quality project, Charley often fixed the poor install of others, especially if it affected the integrity of his project. He always kept us apprised of any issues and stayed on schedule. We are very pleased with his work and would recommend him as someone who still believes in quality and exceptional customer service.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

        How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
