Couldn't ask for a better drum teacher! We enlisted Bryan's help because my child was required to play an instrument in band, and within the first two weeks of school, we realized no instruction on the snare drum was provided. I contacted Bryan and he was very helpful, flexible and understanding with our situation, and fit us into the schedule immediately. My child has been taking lessons with Bryan for a full year, and they have been fantastic, and we are continuing for the foreseeable future. We started the lessons in order to keep up with middle school band. It's evolved into a child who continues to learn the fundamentals and techniques necessary to be a real drummer, but also has a lot of fun in the process. Bryan is a very patient, and fun teacher. He even teacher my child how to play songs she hears on the radio. Bryan's students run the range of real professional drummers, to beginners, and everything in between. If more teachers were like Bryan, I think more kids, particularly those who are required to play instruments in school, would be interested in music. I would give him more than a 5 star rating if I could. He is truly outstanding. My child continues to learn what she needs to know, but she's also developed an appreciation for music and enjoys it. Thank you Bryan!

I began taking drum lessons from Bryan a couple of years ago shortly after my then 12 year old son began taking drum lessons from him. So, I know from experience that Bryan is an excellent teacher of both kids and adults. He is extremely easy going and lessons are relaxed and fun. Bryan doesn't follow a rote lesson plan; lessons are more organic as Bryan tailors his lessons to lead his students to achieve their goals at any given point, whether they include playing particular beats, fills, songs or styles of music, becoming a more skilled drummer or performing in a band. Bryan's depth of knowledge of many varied musical styles facilitates his students' exploration of different beats. The slow downer app he uses to slow the tempo of recorded songs while not distorting the sound makes working to master a particular beat, fill or song more possible and hence, more enjoyable and rewarding. I love that Bryan has two kits in the studio. As a visual learner, it is instructive for me to watch him demonstrate whatever we are working on. And to have him play along with me is just a blast! When my son and I first started taking lessons with Bryan, we purchased an acoustic drum kit from The Drummer's Den. Later, Bryan directed us in the purchase of a terrific electronic drum kit. More recently, Bryan has helped me to acquire some better cymbals for the acoustic kit. I can say without reservation that Bryan will offer you a great price on whatever equipment you are interested in without a hint of trying to sell you something you don't want or need. On top of that, he will tune your drums if (like me) you can't.

I believe, there is a significant difference between a Coach & a Teacher. Both should be well-versed in Basic fundamental standards & both should keep abreast of technological advancements that amend & add to those standards along the way, but a Good Coach knows, He not only has to excel at instilling those good ol' fundamentals, standards & new upgrades, He also knows "he must first get the attention, approval, & respect of the individual he works with, to find & bring out the best in them". I've been a student at The Drummer's Den for almost 3 years. I'm difficult to work with because, I was born with learning difficulties, Dyslexia & ADHD included. I won't reveal my age but, Believe me when I say "I've been through the gamut when it comes to experiences with Teachers & Coaches." When standards are the bottom line, you're a Teacher. When a solid rudimentary foundation, personal creativity, individual &/or group advancement & achievement are taken into consideration, along with the bottom line, you are a Coach😛‼️ Coach Bryan Hawkesworth at The Drummer's Den applies all the important fundamentals but with humanity❗️ He Coaches with patience & understanding, He respects individual differences & seeks out new presentation methods. (If I don't understand one perspective he can pitch another one, or more, until I get it😁‼️He listens to me, let's me Play & try new things that I like‼️ From Rudiments through Rock, & Jazz, & on to something new from there. Don't be fooled by the name of the place. I'm a Drummer learning drums & Cajon but, eventually maybe I'll move on to Guitar. I can choose to start with Bass (which might be easier) or I can try Lead guitar & see how it goes. I Got all my equipment right there on site. Bryan Special orders from any Drum or Hardware manufacturer that I choose👍. He listens & Helps me with choices & options❗️ I'm older & wiser than I used to be & that's a good thing but, more importantly this whole experience of learning a new skill, having someone listen about what's important to me & help with music decisions, gave me something I never expected to have, A level of self-esteem, self-worth, & confidence that (I'm sure) you can only achieve from really Great Coaching & Great personal customer service😁‼️✌️ M R Harmon

I am a former student of Bryan Hawkesworth and a long time customer of The Drummer's Den. I began taking lessons with Bryan when I was eight years old. I am now seventeen and applying to Berklee College of Music. The progress I made having Bryan as a teacher is unparalleled. I purchased a used drum kit from The Drummer's Den for a substantially low price and have been nothing but happy with it. I strongly recommend The Drummer's Den and am beyond grateful for having met Bryan and taking lessons from him.

My son has been taking lessons from Bryan for 6 years. I have watched my son progress and improve with Bryan's instruction. He is patient and also inspires my son to play many different genres of music. I highly recommend Bryan as a percussion instructor!

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Compare the instructor's level of expertise... their experience teaching, their knowledge of the styles you want to learn... and also, compare the studio and the studio's equipment. That way, you'll have a good idea about who you want to learn from and where you want to take your lessons.
