"My husband raved about his massage with Miguel. The facility was clean and comfortable. Miguel customized my husbands massage in response to some old injuries and his recent athletic events. Miguel made sure that my husband felt comfortable during this experience as it was my husbands first professional massage. The best thing was that Miguel is by appointment only so my husband was able to schedule his massage when he was available which happened to be a Saturday morning. Miguel was extremely flexible and went above and beyond our expectations!"

"Every massage I have had from Jeannette has been amazing and she really listens to what is needed each time. For example if I have strained a muscle or just need to de-stress, she knows what will help the situation and I come away feeling relaxed and renewed. I highly recommend Jeannette Heath’s massage therapy expertise and skill."

"I'm a military veteran with spinal stenosis & a herniated disk from an army injury in 1995. I've lived in 4 states in the years since then and you can bet that I've sought relief from the VA, numerous pain clinics, chiropractors, massage therapists and many more. I was referred to Michele Rosen for massage therapy by a chiropractic doctor in 2007 and I continue to be a weekly client of hers. Not only can I highly recommend her massage skills, but I can honestly say she has more healing ability than nearly all the rest I have sought out over the years. Weekly Swedish and lymphatic massages from her enable me to have some range of motion and quality of life. I will never be pain free, but working with Michele is the closest thing I've found. She is also a Reiki Master and has incorporated energy work upon request to boost my results and keep me on the path to health. I've even completed a hypnotherapy session with her and I know she has many more modalities to offer. She has a gift, to which she has applied many years of learning & practicing her skills. Her talent is exceeded only by her desire to help others. Thank you Michele for giving me back mobility & some control of my life over constant pain! I refer her to everyone I know! "

"Overall experience was wonderful. Feel more relaxed the day afterwards. The massage was very wonderful. Slept through most of the massage. Which is best for me and massage therapist. Sleeping allows for a much deeper massage. Booked another massage next week. Usually takes 2-3 massages by the same person to be in tune with each other."

"Tim is wonderful! I went to see him regularly in Rapid City. I have recently moved to the Seattle area and have not found anyone like Tim. He can find troublesome areas without even telling him. Now days so many people have become massage therapists but don't have the talent that Tim has. I recommend him to everyone. Just wish he lived in Seattle. "

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
