Meg is easily one of the best content writers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I run a digital marketing agency and our content needs are diverse. I have yet to encounter a topic, Client or project that she isn't 100% capable of knocking out of the park. Her rates are fair, she is exceptionally communicative and she really cares about the projects she undertakes. You won't be disappointed.

I met Ken Jensen in June, 2014 after interviewing several other potential editors for my novel, "Enemy in the Heartland." I selected Ken because of his professional attitude, his technical knowledge of military hardware, and the fact that he was an author himself made him an easy choice to be my editor. During the editing process, Ken's ability to keep the story's timeline correct and his suggestions on content has made my novel the success it is today. If you are thinking of using Ken's services, but questions, I would happy to talk to you on Ken's ability as an editor. Stephen Schwertley

Boris is a great designer with a creative eye, and he has a deep network of specialists that round out a stellar team (photographers, web developers, motion graphics designers, content strategists, and project managers). He presented our new logo design in several versions and options, starting at the sketch phase. By the end of my project, he had built it out fully with brand standards, sales collateral, and website designs that were cohesive and strategically positioned.

Netflud has truly been a gift to us. Our website had sat stagnate for several months and this left the potential for the subscribers of our content to lose interest. Tim stepped in and completely revamped the look and feel of the home base for our content distribution. Not only will this maintain our loyal following, but supply us with new subscribers for years to come. The level of professionalism, passion and diligence with which Tim and Netflud have shown in the pursuit of our vision is unmatched by anything in my estimation. Tim understands the difficulties small businesses face in making sure there is a genuine return on investment and any enterprise who acquires his services will find themselves very fortunate to have done so.

Honestly I can't say enough positive things about Astor. She truly cares about her data and content quality and can help you learn all you've ever wanted to learn about many aspects of your business. One of the things I find most impressive with Astor's work is the fact that she is CONSTANTLY learning and keeping close attention on all things new/developing. She's always been a pleasure to work with; professionalism, responsiveness and value all in one place are hard to come by these days. Definitely meet with Astor if you are looking for quality web & marketing help! Jen

I was fortunate enough to be referred to WebMVMT by a colleague of mine that was familiar with their work. Upon speaking with them via the phone, I knew that I had found a good fit. It was clear that Christian and the whole team was very passionate about what they do and making my ideas come to life on the web. I am a designer and not tech savvy at all so them simplifying things, allowing me to understand their process and the quality of the final product was unmatched. I'd received many quotes from major design firms and even GoDaddy and was not connecting or delivering the work I had envisioned in my mind, for the limited budget I was working with. They were happy to work with me on costs which was awesome and I felt like I got far more for my buck based on what I spent. My business relies on visual aesthetics and making my work come to life on the web so having a site that complimented my design style was essential. I am pleased to say that from my logo and flow of my site, to the content they come on location to shoot, I get great responses and my visitors feel comfortable and happy. I am very busy and don't have the time to keep up with the changes on the web and finding them has truly sent my business to the next level and I finally feel like I am maximizing my image online. Having everything done under one roof and with a company I trust has been a game changer and! Definitely exceeded the experience I thought I'd have with Thumbtack. I am happy to encourage others to give them a chance and regularly refer them as often as I can. Thanks WebMVMT!

We've worked with the Grammar Doctors for the last several years at my firm. As the primary contact for my firm and the Grammar Doctors, I've always found Amanda to be highly professional, responsive, and transparent in her processes. One of the biggest challenges that typically occur when working with a copy writer is finding someone who can ask the right questions to help them understand what you want to accomplish and Amanda does a solid job of guiding you along so that she can turn out a product that accurately represents the kind of result I want. I would recommend the Grammar Doctors to businesses that are looking to work with a collaborative content professional and are focused on getting high quality results. Amanda Collins and the Grammar Doctors will not disappoint you.

I recently reached out to Web Couture when I needed my website built and I couldn't have had a more positive experience. I am a very logical and "in the box" type of person so I was looking for someone that could offer me fresh ideas, but still stay within the modern aesthetic that I like so much. Web Couture hit it out of the ball park...I love my site! I've worked with designers in the past and sometimes the "tech talk" is a bit much and too confusing, but that is not at all the case with Web Couture. Everything was explained to me in layman's terms during our design consultation, and we worked together along the way to tweak anything that was needed. I was also taught how I can make my own small updates to my site in order to keep it current. I am so happy with the outcome and also my experience. I plan to work with Web Couture again!

I had the pleasure of working with Intuitive Horizon extensively during the start up phase of our company. From helping us refine our mission statement and core values, to assisting with branding and website design, Intuitive Horizon was instrumental in helping our company during the planning stages and initial company launch. We were so pleased with our experience that we have relied on Intuitive Horizon over the years for special projects that were beyond the scope of our in-house talent and resources. If you are start up or growing business that needs help with strategy, branding, web content, email marketing, project management or just need a savvy marketing mentor I can highly recommend Intuitive Horizon.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

      • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
      • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
      • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What do you look for in a web design company?

The web design company you choose must be able to interpret your company’s mission and identity and turn it into an appealing website that connects with potential customers. They must help you reach your target audience and meet your business goals. A web design agency should have on staff both talented web designers, with fresh ideas and extensive technical and creative skills, and a marketing team that knows how to drive traffic to your site, encourage visitor engagement, and convert visitors into customers. Web designers should be able to build in search optimization and integrate your site with a content management system and e-commerce tools. Look, too, for a website design company that understands responsive design and can optimize your website for mobile devices and desktop browsers. The right web design company understand current design and website trends, has experience building sites in a variety of industries (not just yours), and has an expansive portfolio of live websites. Finally, don’t simply hire the cheapest bidder — in web design, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

How do you hire a web designer?

You’ve determined that the best way to create a professional, modern, mobile-friendly new website is to hire a professional web designer to build it. To hire the best person for the job — and to get the web design that best fits your company’s identity — it’s important to ask a few key questions:

      • What’s the scope of the work? Will the website be basic with just a few pages about your company, its services, and contact information? Or will it also have an e-commerce section for online shopping, a blog, or content for visitors to download? Before you hire a web designer, make sure you have a thorough, specific list of the components you must have the designer include in the web design.
      • What do you want your website to look like? Consider websites that are similar to the one you’d like to build, ideally in the same industry or serving similar types of customers. Build a set of examples of types of pages, design aspects, and website features that you can hand off to the web designer — the person you hire should have experience creating websites with the features you want. If they don’t have the right skill set, they’re not the right pro for you.
      • What’s the web designer’s start-to-finish process? What will the final deliverable be? Before you hire someone, make sure their availability works with your timeline and that their process meets your expectations. Most important is finding a web designer who will work collaboratively with you to create a successful online presence.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
