I just had my makeup trial run for my wedding and Julie was fantastic! I'm positively thrilled with how my makeup turned out. It has now been almost 6 hours (plus driving in the Arizona heat); my face and lashes still look flawless. My full faith is with this talented makeup artist for my wedding!

Adriana was very nice when she came over. But for some reason when I asked for the trial for my hair and make up, I was under the impression that I will get both on that day - hair and makeup. But Adriana only does make-up. So we still decided to do it. Since she drove so far to see us. I was looking for more of a natural look, but after the trial my face felt very caky and the foundation immediately got in the creases under my eyes and made me look older. And I didn't like how my eyes looked. My mother-in-law's makeup looked really good though. But we still decided do our makeup ourselves for my boho wedding. But I'm sure she is very good if you are looking for more of a dramatic look.

Erin and her team were great. I was looking for hair/makeup for my wedding in Sedona and her prices and quality of work were more than fair. Her team was excellent and kept right on track to be finished right on time for pictures. All of my gals were very happy with their hair and makeup and all the ladies accommodated everyone's requests. Hiring someone in Sedona was very expensive and Erin was half the price with no sacrifice on services. She came up to Sedona without any hesitation or issues. I was having difficulty with what to do with my fine hair and she accommodated me with hair trials and working with my vision. In the end, it turned out perfectly. Thank you, again, for being a part of our wedding day and being so graceful and accommodating for us!

I have to say, not only is Nataliya an amazing make up and hairstylist her personality is awesome!! I booked Nataliya for my girlfriend's bachelorette party (so 3 girls hair and makeup) and she surpassed all of our expectations. Especially the bride who doesn't wear any makeup and had never had an artist do her make up and hair before! Not only that, but she also got us all done on time! The girls and I just loved Nataliya! I will be booking her for all my events!

Lexi did my hair and makeup for my wedding, as well as the hair and makeup for a few of my bridesmaids. She did an amazing job, she always listened to feedback and adjusted accordingly. I had 2 trial runs with her to get the look I wanted down for the wedding and she made me look gorgeous! :)

Ann was fantastic!! She is a true artist with hair and with makeup. I have no regrets choosing her for my wedding. You'll notice that any complaints on here are from people who haven't actually met her. Just go into her salon, and let her work her magic.

Steph did my makeup for prom and made me feel so beautiful. I showed her my dress and put the trust in her to decide what shades went with it and she couldn't have been more spot on. She was confident in her work, so I felt at ease the whole time because I knew the final product would be amazing. She is meticulous and frequently asked for my preferences to make sure I was happy and comfortable with what she was doing, but I told her I trusted her to do whatever she thought looked best, and she did not let me down! I wish I had Steph to do my makeup every day!

I had a wonderful wonderful experience with Peggy as my makeup artist for my 25th wedding anniversary in Scottsdale Arizona. It was very enjoyable; the makeup was very flawless, it lasted in the heat of the Arizona sun and throughout the evening. I really enjoyed it and the pictures really do show how beautiful I am. Lol! But, it also shows how experienced and how wonderful of a job Peggy did on my face. Thank you very much for making my 25th wedding anniversary such a blast! Latrice Owens

I loooovvved having Cheryl as my wedding makeup artist. She has such a sweet personality. She arrived early and was ready to work. I wish she could do my makeup everyday. I got so many compliments on my wedding day about my makeup. My makeup lasted all day long on top of that. She is truly an artist. She listened to what type I was going for. I wanted soft glam look for my day. She offered what type of colors would look good with my skin tone. She also used products that would look good for photography. All my bridesmaids loved her as well. You won’t be disappointed if you hire her!

About

My name is Robyn, and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. The aesthetics field and my love for beauty and makeup have always been my passion and dream career. I love anything beauty and makeup. I do fashion shows, photo shoots, and weddings. Most of my business comes from word of mouth, and I truly enjoy my clients. I do know skin care since my background is in aesthetics since 2005, and I used to teach at an aesthetic school. I have three beautiful children, and this career allows me to be creative and to do what I love to do and still work around my families schedule. I started out doing this by myself, and now, I have a couple girls working with me. I love to teach and educate my clients on products and treatments that address their concerns with max. results. My weakness is that I am a product junkie and will try just about anything to see if it does what it says it does. My strength is my passion for consistency to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction and overall experience.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

  • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
  • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
  • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
  • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
  • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
  • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
  • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

  • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
  • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
  • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
  • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
  • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.
