Very nice guys came and fixed my hvac. It wasn't turning on heat or cold. Replaced the thermostat and fixed some very bad rewiring from previous technicians. It's hard to find a good, honest people that will not spend an hour trying to upsell you the next thing. I would call J and J back anytime in a heartbeat.

We had used another service on another home owned by the same owner before we had found All Steam. All Steam did a better job for a better price. They also did the job with limited Air conditioning (wall unit in one room) as the main unit was broken; it was supposed to be fixed that morning, but the HVAC company didn't call me while they were there. We were on a tight schedule to get the tenants moved in so they saved the day.

I am not someone who dishes out compliments to companies, I usually don't other writing reviews either, unless it's to spare my fellow humans from poor quality servicea. I do however make an exception for Cloud 9 because they are a phenomenal group of talented technicians with superior leadership, and A+ customer service. We had our HVAC system serviced in the summer of 2014, and were so happy with the service call, that when our house went up for sale this past Fall, we took advantage of the Home Services department knock every item off our BINSR list prior to close of escrow; in one day! You cannot go wrong with Cloud 9, and I recommend their entire team with confidence. If seeing is believing, this company stands behind their work, and is backed by an owner with high ethical standards.

After our upstairs toilet leaked through the bathroom floor/garage roof, Charles was able to quickly repair the roof and replaced the baseboards in our bathroom all for a very reasonable price. His work speaks for itself, he took the time to ensure that our baseboards and the caulking on the tile floor matched as close as possible, his technician Jaime did a great job texturing the garage roof. Overall we are very happy with the work that was done, Charles was very knowledgable, professional and we highly recommended taking advantage of his services.

When I called early in the morning to schedule a dryer duct cleaning, Beth was prompt in calling me back. She scheduled a visit for the same day at 4:00 pm. Steve (the lead technician) called me at about 1:15 to let me know they were running early and to ask if it was okay if they came by at 1:45. Early is ALWAYS good with me! Both technicians, Steve and Vince, were very friendly, professional and diligent. They did a great job answering all of many questions, cleaned my dryer duct, cleaned up, reconnected my dryer, and were gone in less than 45 minutes. Oh, and they use flat-rate pricing. So no matter how difficult the job or how long your ductwork is, or even if it goes to your roof, they only charge a flat rate plus a VERY low trip charge (our trip charge was $15). If you ever need your vents cleaned, and you DO, this is the ONLY place to call. You'll be glad you did. (TB)

I couldn't be happier! Technicians were superb in every way. Perfect new in wall plumbing for water softener in a home with no loop. Asked me exactly to the half inch where I wanted things placed, what fixtures I wanted used down to every last detail. Pricing was very competitive and Ben's follow up to land the job was impeccable! Thanks guys :-)

Chris arrived at the scheduled time and even gave a call ahead of time that he was on his way. He was very friendly and courteous. After describing that I needed the common ground wires connected to both my air handlers he quickly got to work and accomplished the task. He went above and beyond my request by installing the new thermostat with out me asking. He was through to make sure that it was hooked up correctly and that both heating and air conditioning was still working properly. He also offered to come back if anything wasn't working as it should. I would highly recommend Grand Air for HVAC work. Thanks Chris for a job well done.

My experience with 2 Brothers was amazing. Mike was punctual, polite, thoughtful, professional, knowledgeable, helpful and affordable. He was careful about putting shoe covers on and off going in and out of the house. He accurately diagnosed the design flaws and what the previous owners had done to get around it, which was putting more stress on the AC units. He opened all the registers at no extra charge. Would definitely use them for all my HVAC needs.

Technician was friendly enough but it was clear he (or the company in general) did not have the knowledge to repair my brand of water softener. After five minutes of pushing buttons he said it needed to be replaced for $2,000! I said no way and called another company with a more expensive service call fee that was able to repair this specific brand - for $230. Unfortunately I still had to pay the first service call fee too of $39.

I thought it was going to cost us a small fortune, turns out it was our compressor that needed to be replaced. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.
