I hired Precious Possessions to move our 2 story home in Phoenix. We have some very heavy pieces & items that needed to be disassembled. The company sent Vince & Eddie for the move & we could not have asked for two men that worked any more efficiently. They arrived on time, were professional, polite, & wasted no time throughout the day. After about 13 hours of very hard labor, everything was moved with care, reassembled, & nothing was left incomplete. I would highly recommend this company for any move.

We found/scheduled Express Moves through the Thumbtack website, and received excellent, responsive service from the initial reservation to the very end of our very labor-intensive office relocation. We had to change the date and truck size on very short notice, and Robert and his teams provided us with outstanding service, going 'above and beyond' to ensure that our office relocation was fully completed in the tight timeframe required in our circumstances. And although it took every bit of 12 hours to do so, Robert and his crews were consistently patient, pleasant, flexible and extremely hard-working throughout the entire day. We highly recommend Express Moves Movers!!!

I moved locally over Labor Day Weekend. I hadn't hired movers in a very long time because of horrendous past experiences with some in the East Valley. Had I not searched through Thumbtack, I would have never found this gem of a moving company. Compared to other moving companies wanting to charge me upwards of $400+ just to move a small amount of things from a one bedroom apartment to another one bedroom apartment (that was literally 4 miles down the road), this one was extremely reasonable. Sylvester and Ricky came to help me and they were exceptional. They were extremely professional, polite, and respectful to me and my belongings. They made sure to ask me exactly how I wanted things and even offered to throw away some of my trash. It was hard for me to let them do these things, even if they were included in the price of the package, because I am so used to doing them myself and I can't just not help. They completely changed my views on local moving companies. I would recommend them to anyone!

These guys did an amazing job with our move. We moved a three bedroom two bathroom house and these guys whipped out the work. Our moving crew was extremely efficient and nice. They showed up early with our permission (it was nice that they checked in first to make sure that would be okay). Also, very affordable pricing. This is in part due to how quickly they got the work done which kept the hourly charge at a minimum. You will not sacrifice quality for price if you choose this moving company.

Trickshot Billiards is above and beyond what a pool table company should be. Frank took our used table and made it look amazing. It ended up taking more time and labor than any of us knew and Frank made sure to keep us in constant contact and it was well worth it. I recommend them to ANYONE looking to have any work what so ever done to their table. If you chose another person to do your work, you will regret it. He is an artist and a true professional. He will forever be our go to company.

Instead of paying to rent a u-haul truck, spent the money to have Moving Done Light do all the moving and labor for less. Great Value and responsivness to requests. Two younger stronger guys, better than two older and out of shape folks. Give them a fair chance and be surprised of the work they can do.

Jason did a good job moving a challenging wardrobe cabinet set. We required an early evening delivery, but he was quite late due to working other jobs. Recommend scheduling with him for first thing in the morning if punctuality is important.

Oscar and his coworker drove the Pienske moving truck to my house for me, loaded everything as instructed, and worked HARD. They carefully wrapped all the furniture and were excellent at planning the placement of the contents onto the truck. You can trust that they will do a good job for you too!

Carnell showed up on time with his friend and moved all my boxes and stuff with no problem at all. I am very happy with his service. He also accommodated a last minute request from my room mate and helped her move as well. Definitely hire him. I felt it was good value for my money considering how hot the weather is in Phoenix now which makes moving on your own so hard. He also had a good attitude overall from the first time we communicated tilk end of the move.

The best moving experience I've ever had, from start to finish. Their quote was significantly cheaper than what I'd received from other moving companies, and they were very responsive to my questions in the days before the actual move. This was a local move within Phoenix. We went with the full packing and moving service, and the 4 movers were very friendly, thoughtful, and careful with our valuables. The pack went very smoothly and efficiently. The next day, the same 4 guys showed up, and they got everything out of our large 2-bedroom apartment in under 4 hours (even with the additional challenge of 3 narrow flights of stairs!) Moving into our new place was exceptionally smooth and easy, and they placed our large furniture items where we wanted them. Everything else was neatly stacked in such a way as to allow us to move around the apartment while unpacking. Everything was packed and moved safely, and nothing was damaged or broken. I HIGHLY Valley Student Movers!

OK - I admit, I didn't wind up using them - but I give them a five star rating all the same. I had placed a request for moving assistance in my own home because I was doing a flooring reno project and had to have all the furniture out of the bedrooms. Of all the moving companies contacted by Thumbtack, only two responded, one of which refused to help.I suppose this was too small of a job for them. Bellhops at least contacted me with a very reasonable offer for assistance. If I ever do move, I will use Bellhops.

Wow! Gavin, Cesar and Alexander did a out of state move for our family and we couldn't have picked a better company, we've had movers in the past who just threw stuff in the truck without wrapping anything. These guys are real professionals and take pride in their work! Cesar did a amazing walk through breaking down the price and determining the hours of the move! Gavin took so much attention to our glassware and was packed so well that you could throw it off a mountain! and I believe it still have all our class items safe without anything broken! And Alexander the way he stacked the truck was incredible! He saved us money on a extra truck that was recommended from a different moving company, but fit all our stuff in one truck! Everything was snuged and stack to the roof, we moved a lot in the past and I've never seen someone pack a truck like that! And there rates are perfect! Wish we could of left a bigger tip! M Load will be my movers for now on!

We can't say enough about the DiMuras team who handled our move from Fountain Hills to Scottsdale. With moving being one of life's most stressful experiences, your team endeavored to make it as stress free as possible. In addition to being professional, we appreciated their considerate and caring demeanor. All the movers, and especially Tommy were sensitive to my stress level and spoke in reassuring terms. It's great to have the owner of the business there throughout the entire move! We also appreciated the care that was taken to prepare the property with protective runners for the traffic in and out of the house. I understand that our move involved some challenges, one of which was moving a long dresser and a pool table up a turn staircase. Our daughter who was present for the duration of the move and who has moved a number of times within New York City and within the UK and Europe noted that she has never experienced a move that went as smoothly as ours. Much praise is due especially to Tommy who coordinated the moving process and to his assistant.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
